Re: can anyone get me a job???
KFC in YVR had 2 AME departures in Feb. Now they have a couple more AME to depart in a couple months. All they can get is apprentices to fill in temp positions. You've got a good shot to get a job. You will get some ratings as well, convair, 727, DC10, and anything else out of the 1950's. Not sure ...

Re: AME tool kit
I like the box, where are they available? My craftsman box bottom is worn out and the hinges have been repaired several times. I've wanted a new one for the next out of town but haven't found a new supply. I bought a Pelican 1510 Case to use as my Road trip box. I got sick of having to repair my bo...

When the Canadian Military needs an Airlift that has to be outsourced they use Skylink Aviation, A CANADIAN company who then sub-contracts out the work, using whoever they can find with appropriately sized and available aircraft. There are only two companies in Canada that have aircraft bigger than ...

I used to work for Jet Eagle Transfer at YVR South Terminal from 02-04 (along with Ed H. Re: AME Duty Time Limits
Now in Canada, KFC has a duty time in its policy manual. It limits the certifying AME to 16hrs, and it is regulated by....HR! The payroll department picks up on this, and if your shift is over 16hrs, then permission to pay you is required from the Director of Maint. So you work the shift, 2 weeks l...

Re: Information on the 27 and DC10
We haven't really done 727 C-Checks in YLW for a couple years now. Yes the main bird we normally is 37's. But we do have a bunch of 57's coming in for Winglets right now. We have had some slow downs, but luckily enough we have not had to layoff any mechs, We are actually hiring right now, but that i...

Can you stop for fuel??? 1700nm is starting to push the range for a turbo prop while still carrying a meaningful load of freight. Also what kind of freight are you planning on carrying, as that will also determine what kind of A/C to use, as you will have to meet the cargo door size and floor loadin...

I think you'll forgive me the .75c when you factor in that I bought my first house for under $100k, gas was 60c/l, and your average shop rate was $60/hr back then. Starting wages for M2 was $23/hr back then I believe and to hear of $25/hr start now ten years later is unbelievable. Forever apprentic...

Just had mine done in October in Kelowna at Vivid Laser Centre....I didn't have to worry about the licensing issue though as I'm an AME. In YVR area the Coal Harbour Eye Center is highly recommended from several friends of mine who have gone there and they were originally my first choice of where I ...

Re: Maintenance Jobs in Kelowna
The down side is you are working on ancient planes and equipment (I used to call it Canada's largest living aviation museum) and the middle management is a pain in the ass to deal with. No so much any more as the hangar is usually filled with 757's and a couple 737NG's. Hardly any heavy work on Con...

Heres your chance to own a derelict 727. It'll only cost ya $15,000...haha...If I had 15,000 to spare I wouldn't be spending it on this.

Re: life as an AME
It all boils down to where you work. I've never been forced to work a graveyard shift, I've always been asked if I minded. OT is great but not mandatory, and don't expect OT right when you start. Most places want you to be fairly self sufficient before they will ask you to come in on a weekend or ho...

I'm not pushing anyone to take the course. Yes, of course the industry could take shit by the time the course is done. All I'm saying is that if he wants to take the course, you might aswell take it somewhere were theirs a company waiting at the doorstep to hire you.

Look at the BCIT course in Kelowna, Fligtcraft is so short on "S" guys they are advertising on behalf of BCIT to get people to take the course. Word is that the next two classes will all be offered jobs at KF.
