Re: Layoffs... True?
Do a google search on "the greediest generation" and you will find a number of acticles relating what Rockie is saying ( not necesarily related to aviation, but mandatory retirement in general). But the underlying fact in all of them is that this is not about human rights but about greed and a sense...

Rudder,
You sound like someone from Jazz who would like to take flying away from AC so that you could do it for even less $.

Re: CRJs on the way out at Horizon
Rudder, US Airways (a legacy carrier) operates the EMB190/5 at the mainline. Foreget the dash a/c all together. (Mightymouse), who posted JAZZ should only fly "q400's and NO CRJ'S." I have a better idea, how about Jazz fly all crj's 700/705/900/1000. Let the Dash 8's go to Georgian or CMA or Pasco.....

If the gear was selected up as the RJ was entering a high speed taxiway at 40kts and for some reason (such as hitting a bump) the aircraft didn't detect weight on wheels, wouldn't the gear begin its retraction cycle and when the gear could no longer support the weight of the aircaft then the gear wo...

It may be an "airline specific" type of thing. Air Canada used to use nose-gear pins in the past, but no longer does. There were several (lots) of cases of the pin being forgotten, the aircraft departing, takes off, can't retract nose gear, returns to airport, lands, taxi to ramp, pin gets removed ...

I don't think that they are turning a blind eye, they (mgmt) know that people are leaving and there is very little or nothing that they can do to stop people from going. Most people have made up there mind to stay or go and for those that want to go it's only a matter of time. For those that want to...

We've been told there's work for at least two after May and a good probability of work for more. However we were told before it shut down that things were good (ie loads were good, that Canjet was making money and the future was bright). After the shutdown we were told that it had been a sinking shi...

220k for the 500 leases, you're joking right? Whoever told you that has no idea what IMP is paying for them, the only people that do are a very few within IMP. Two days before he made the announcement to close up shop it was the middle of labour day weekend. Exactly who was he calling at WestJet? I'...

With all due respect to WestJet in their present form, when they first got the Transat contract they could not provide the lift that they give Transat today. Should Canjet get the Transat contract I would expect them to increase the lift they provide to Transat over the term of the contract. I agree...

CanadaEH, -Canjet offers one city (more cities cost money because you need handling contracts). Westjet offers around 24 cities. Canjet can't offer the same service from the amount of cities that Westjet can. Service contracts at the major airports (yyz, yul, yow etc.) are easy to come by and can be...

The contract that WS has with Transat that expires in 2007 is the one that Canjet is after. There may be some charters flown for Transat by canjet this winter but it is the long term contract (the one that offers right of first refusal) that KR wants and is probably the main reason behind the reshuf...

Trainer, on point 2: He didn't announce that he wasn't making money, he said that canjet wasn't meeting IMP requirements in terms of profit : i.e. he wasn't making enough money. And just so everybody can see your earlier brilliance: You guys make me laugh. None of you have the foggiest of why, how a...

Trainer, you are right. None of us have the foggiest idea of what just happened at CanJet and neither do you. In my opinion he was making money however probably not a whole lot and he was probably looking at a loss in the short term. That’s just my somewhat educated opinion, just as you have yours. ...

I don't think that Canjet has a problem getting charter work for their aircraft and also expanding the fleet with new aircraft should not be a problem as their costs are undoubtedly lower than that of the competition. The problem in getting more work and more aircraft lies in attracting new pilots a...
