Re: How long til $100k?

One thing hard to put a price on is how much you like what you’re doing. I’ve been flying corporate jets for over 15 years now, and though it hasn’t always been smooth I sailing from the employment point of view, there has rarely been a day on which i didn’t enjoy going to work. That’s more and more...

Re: Convert Canadian CPL to FAA CPL

I would like to add that you could still get your application signed off at FSDO's. Here is the entire procedure posted on the FAA website: https://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/advisory_circulars/index.cfm/go/document.information/documentid/1027574 Seattle FSDO would not do this, they instructe...

Re: Convert Canadian CPL to FAA CPL

Great article in Skies Magazine from a couple years ago tells you exactly everything you need. You could probably do it in a couple weeks if you have easy access to exam writing locations. Only difference now is you don’t go to a FSDO, you look up a DPE on FAA website and deal with them. They are an...

Re: Training bond Write off with CRA

It’s simple, It’s an education expense just like tuition at university. You need a t2202. Employer is obliged to provide if they can. I’ve done it, no problem. If employer can’t provide t2202 due to their status with CRA, then get a written letter receipt that you are paying for training. Ask employ...

Still busy in YVR, especially the heavy corp jets. They go more or less non stop, but smaller jets also still busy.

Re: feeling a bit lost

Agreed, being unwilling to move home base makes starting out in this industry a bit more challenging. Maybe renting out your house might be an option if there an opportunity afield. Having said that, if you’re in a place with a bunch of tier 3 operators and small charter ops, there might be opportun...
Overdue? We literally just got out of the worst industry downturn in aviation history like last year
Yes overdue. COVID was a pause in a major ramp up that hasn’t been seen since the 70’s. So if you are so focused on 2 yrs of the history but not looking at the surrounding 50, then ...

Re: How to postone an offer?

You apply to several companies. They have different timelines. You would like to get as many offers as possible to be able to compare them. How do you delay answering an offer that comes earlier than the others? Is it acceptable to say "Thank you for the offer, I will give you a response in 1/2/4 w...

Re: East coast operators

I agree, I think schedule is a big part of it. Remember, when many of these guys started these jobs, their wives did not work, and they could afford a cabin at the lake without an extra mortgage. Now we have to coordinate 2 vacation requests (mine and the wife) and coordinate time off to be able to ...

Re: HF Always required for Transatlantic?

YFB to BGSF is only 486nm, and you don't leave the shore of Canada for almost half that distance, so even if the definition of high seas means 200nm from shore then you're not at any time "over the high seas" on that route. So - no interpretation needed, you're good. Exactly. This is the key. On th...

Re: Business flying slowing down?

Is the domestic flying ban in France happening anywhere else in the world? Apparently Amsterdam Schipol is trying to ban all GA. In terms of business this year has been slightly slower than last so far - owner flying similar, less charter which is fine by me! Heavy jet YYZ Thankfully, it seems like...

Re: Business flying slowing down?

Even busier than it was 6 months ago for heavy international jets us out here in YVR. For the super mid size to smaller jets charter demand seems to be high, owner flying is steady. With new airframes arriving on a steady basis, though, it’s generally busier than I’ve ever seen and I’ve been in yvr ...

Re: Leaving current job I'm unhappy with for aviation

If you love flying, do it. I did university degree and then pilots license (private license part time during first year and then completed commercial/IFR after graduation) and started my first pilot job at 25. I don’t regret a single minute of it. Now (granted, MANY years later 😉) flying a heavy cor...

Also, why mess with something that works? The last 15 yrs have seen the most stability in the BC medevac operations that I’ve witnessed in my lifetime.

Re: Who is the BC Medevac contract going to?

EIC would have not paid huge money for Carson’s Medevac operation a couple years ago if it wasn’t 99% sure it was getting the contract. It’s no mystery folks. If you bet on anyone else for the majority of the fixed wing contract you’ll lose that bet. I’m sure NT Air will keep their single 350 in YXS...

I won't say where I am right now, but it is the end of the road. The Kid at the FBO/Fueller is looking at finishing his license. He asked me my thoughts, I went over and had a coffee/bs session with an old crony(CP), and the kid(30 is a kid to me). Response "finish your license, send in your resume...
