Re: CBC coverage- Pilot’s frustrated ATC rant
That particular Captain said on the PA, what most Pilots think. The PA shouldn't be used as a soap box, but that is my opinion. Last year at the "Take Your Kid to Work Day" there was the usual tour of the VR Tower. During the tour the Controller announced the following to the group of grade 9 kids....

Re: Butch
Does anyone here have any experience in the homebuilt market? I'm curious as to what a fair market value would be for something like this. Last flew 11 years ago and its a true homebuilt as it gets, the guy built it without a kit. Am I the only one that thinks 45K is quite steep?

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
If the core got abruptly colder/slower the EEC would sense relight in order and automation then cuts fuel for the ventilation process preceding ignition/RUN. Sounds to me like no pilot switching is therefore required for that; being the same circuit the FDR would then have to be capturing this as t...

Re: Current Recruiting for FOs and DECs (2025)
What is the reasoning to put low timers without much east coast IFR experience instead of experienced 703 captains with more IFR experience than they have total time as FOs? That those 703 Captains with years of IFR experience are too stuck in their bush ways. Specially King air Captains. The PAL A...

Re: Current Recruiting for FOs and DECs (2025)
I think most if not all positions at all bases are fully staffed? A few guys got hired for YHZ DEC a few months ago, and a few FO's have come but they are all from Air Borealis or the MFC program I think. Nobody is leaving lately so not much hiring going on... latest seniority list only shows 9 guy...

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
And still crickets on FDR and black box recordings. Nothing screams cover up louder than silence. If it was a Boeing issue, the cause, and the appropriate ADs, would be out already. India, Air India and anyone involved will deflect any blame from themselves. Not really. It hasn't even been 30 days ...

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
I can't think of a scenario where both engines would fail at exactly the same time. If they failed at exactly the same time I can only think there must have been some corruption or fault in the FADEC system. How about this for a possible scenario? They lose an engine at (or approaching) V1. I"m gue...

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
Look at a Koch chart (and the example they give you when you google it) Add in 10kts ENE (showing at Indore/1850ft elev) What do all those things do to a climb rate by “635msl”, let alone runway distance that was required just to get there? Pdw, A worst case temperature inversion should not bring d...

Re: Harbour Air
I am a student pilot, about to sit for my CPL flight test, with about 150 hours now, all on wheels. Harbour air has expressed interest in hiring me as a ramp agent when availability opens up and I'm wondering if it makes sense for me to work for harbour air. I would like to work my way up from ramp...

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
This is not true in any sense. Yep, ridiculous statement! I happened to recently had a chat with a 703 multi turbine captain with 14 plus years as captain who hasn’t been hired. This person was nice to chat with, they didn’t give any sort of impression they would be a headache to be crewed with. Th...

Re: Mach/IAS transition question
Is that not simply luck of the draw that the OP's example is M 0.70 / 250 kts? What should he do if the instruction was 'descend M .70 transition 230 kts'? Then the automatic scenario above wouldn't work anymore. I guess I could have been more clear, in the RJ to switch the speed bug between Mach a...

Re: Mach/IAS transition question
Old jets, maintain cleared Mach on descent and watch the cleared airspeed for descent move to match the Mach and then follow the airspeed(or maybe it was the Mach indication that moved. This is exactly what glass/FMS/A/T equipped jets do. At least the Boeings and Airbus I've flown do this. They mai...

Re: Mach/IAS transition question
I understand what you're saying, but this is getting off track. Also, I don't have auto throttle, so it doesn't matter what's in the FMS. Its a rule/theory/procedure question only. You don't need auto thrust for this to apply. The FMS calculates a descent based on speed. Plenty of planes without A/...

Re: Mach/IAS transition question
Another thing to keep in mind is the planned descent on the FMS. If you don't change the speed to the new ATC requested speed and simply wait until you're at the required IAS and speed intervene, you'll quickly find yourself off path. Not a big deal most times but it can increase workload if your p...

Re: WHEN quit Flight Instructor? Time required?
The only answer to your question is, whenever you get hired by someone else. It doesn't take 1500 hours to be competent in the right seat of a Pilatus or King Air. I'm of the opinion that too many hours burning holes around a circuit just makes the transition to operational flying exceedingly more d...

Who cares if you're in ground school and quit to go somewhere better It’s nothing personal it’s just business brotha You cost less than 3 turbine blades Right there with you! Actually, I flew 200 hours as FO before I started building multi-PIC, flying as medevac Captain on a pressurized twin at 800 TT with fresh out of school FOs, CP of the same company the day my ATPL was signed off at 1600TT, went to 705 at 6000 of which 5600 was multi-PIC.
