Re: Any planned hiring this year?
Gotta remember those 16 year upgrades are based solely on retirements only. Doesn’t take into account airline growth, resignations, medical issues etc. Approx 28 tails coming onboard this year. Still lots on order. Trying to be optimistic.

Re: Any planned hiring this year?
From a pilot call a while back it will probably be late summer early fall before hiring resumes. Westjet training department will be busy training approx 80 sunwing pilots/month for the next 6 months. No room for OTS or upgrade training till integration is complete.

Re: New Flair payscle, highest starting rate in the country
Thank you for posting that. My biggest pet peeve is people talking about their per diem. SWG per diem is significantly higher than Westjet and I spend pretty much every penny, sometimes more. It gives a good indication of how poor the salaries are if people are trying to pack food from home or doin...

Re: New Flair payscle, highest starting rate in the country
Gotta look at the whole package. Lots of extras to take into account then just hourly pay. I don’t know what flairs total package is but for example as a first/second year Westjet FO T4 was 104K. Another 13k tax free per diem on top of that. That includes a couple days of OT approx 3k

Re: Westjet FO take home pay
Second year pay scale Sept-Nov (6 pay periods) my average take home was $8100/month. This includes a couple days of OT in sept and profit share in Nov. Also includes per diems. Without profit share and the couple days of OT I figure it would be around $7400/month take home.

Re: Sunwing/Westjet
Sunwing has arguably the best narrow body flying in Canada, with productive turns (8 or 9 flights in a month) or nice beach layovers all winter. There could also be some potential benefits to be brought in from the Sunwing contract as part of these negotiations if things are done properly. Sunwing ...

Boys and gals get ready. Good things are coming. In a recent board meeting it was unanimously decided that the management understands how pathetic the WAWCON are at AC and are willing to take it to the next level. They want AC to be competitive and want to invest in the pilots. Expect $130k year 1 ...

Re: WestJet Suspending Flights Between YYZ and YUL.
I don’t even know why this made it on the news. Slow news day I guess. It was 1 flight/day. A fraction of a percent of WestJets flying.
There will most likely be a WestJet base in YUL this time next year with Sunwing coming on board. Probably lots of flying out of YUL then.

WestJet new direction with ULCC integration
Interesting article written by Alexis on why the Swoop ULCC integration into mainline. Basically every aircraft will now fly business, economy and ULCC passengers on the same flight. His example of a yyc-yyz flight cost was surprising to me. $320 per seat in fees and fuel. That’s before the crew and...

You forgot the big one: Porter=growing Westjet=Shrinking Not sure how you figure WestJet is shrinking.
