Re: Cessna - Glider Midair Collision near Pemberton
I too flew with Rudy, and remember him well. I liked his straight-to-the-point attitude. I regret not spending more time up there. He will be missed.

Re: Plane crashes into crowd at Reno air races
I would say the lack of trim tab was a contributing factor, for sure.
apparently he got a partial mayday call in..
RIP and my prayers are with the injured.

Re: Top KHL Squad killed in Russian plane crash.
that's assuming they are already at mtow with as much fuel as possible. I too am unfamiliar with 705 ops these days, but is it common to top up the airplane with as much fuel as possible even if it's not needed? I would assume that if the real pax weights vs the standard rates are enough to put the ...

A little off topic here guys, but don't confuse safety with legality. They don't always go hand in hand. The same goes for illegal and unsafe.. you can sometimes have one without the other.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the F22 that went down in alaska. Maybe they are sending replacements and/or using the aircraft to transport the body back.

The day a pilot decides they don't need anymore training or practice is the day they should hang up their wings.

Re: Feet on the floor or on the rudders
Feet 100% on rudder, steer with the balls of your feet, brake with your toes. Far more control that way. That's the way they were designed, imho, that's the way they should be used. However, if you aren't the most nimble-footed pilot, I can see where you might want to keep your toes away from the br...

Re: Landing Long.
I think it totally depends on circumstance and I think that people who play 'high and mighty' and claim never to do it are full of poop. If you are flying a cessna 172 into an airport with a 10,000' runway and the parking spot is at the FAR END - you'd be an absolute retard to land on the first 10,...

Re: A few thoughts about our forum...
If you read enough posts you get to know the personalities of the users, and can seperate the wheat from the chaff. Also, there are many very experienced users who are a treasure chest of valuable knowledge, who unfortunately often taint their posts with extremist bias. But if you look past the pers...

Re: Braking vs. Reverse Thrust
I'm a bit of a brake guru when it comes to racecars, and much of it carries over to airplanes. For those that don't know: when you first install new pads or shoes on a braking system, you are supposed to "bed" them. Which means you force the new pad to transfer (deposit) some of it's material onto t...

Personally I think the government can afford to give bigger tax breaks to lower time pilots who work for small operations.
The money will eventually get spent and return in the form of sales tax anyways...

"Any other suggestion?" ... Yeah. Here's my suggestion. GIVE IT A REST! These poor guys are dead less than 24 hours and you want to point the finger at them already? This is one of the most disgusting things about this site - all the ghouls hanging around wanting to speculate in an almost total abs...

Re: Navajo crash on final for YVR?
Witnesses are saying it went nose first into the ground, immediately followed by a 100' + high tower of smoke and fire. News is saying 2 onboard, dead.
RIP to the crew and condolences to the families. Hope that the cause is determined and that it'll never happen again.

Re: Bird strike at 10000' w/pic
I'm not so much amazed by the bird strike, but rather that these birds (gulls & geese) can fly between 10-30,000' for extended periods.
1, there's barely any oxygen
2, it's damn cold
can you imagine being outside the airplane at 10,000+ feet?
