Re: Porter vs Transat

I'd choose Air Transat. Five (fairly) good of reasons: - there's no getting in on the ground floor at Porter. All 400 dash pilots are more senior to you and will eclipse your seniority number for a few years to come. Translation: your schedule will suck for a long time. - Business travel isn't neces...

what does it have to do with Swoop? Seems you're blaming the child for the parent's failures?

Re: Fuel density effect on range/fuel capacity US West coast against south east Asia

That has been my experience. Routinely planned a max uplift of 400lbs less than book leaving out of a popular SE destination, whereas in Europe for example you could "overfill" the aircraft on occasion, getting 80-100 lbs more than book.

Re: Canada or International

I've been overseas for twelve years now, got married and have two kids. So far an amazing experience and pay that will never be matched in Canada. You can make more money in an airline overseas as a DEC on a 737/A320 than a very senior wide body Air Canada guy. I've worked in corporate aviation for ...

Re: Air Taxi Franchise idea?

Waldo, i love this idea and have been thinking about a similar set-up for some time. one of my biggest concerns is on how to manage sop's and a safety minded way of operating each and every flight. some individual operators may be more risk averse than others, but it would only take one incident/acc...

Re: Air Taxi Franchise idea?

I love this idea. Been thinking about something similar for some years now. I think there would be no shortage of interested pilot owners/operators accross the whole spectrum from piston to jets. One thing that provides an area for concern would be operating standards and safety. A way to monitor th...

Re: C-GNDN 1st Gulfstream G650 added to Canadian Register

The G650 is easy to spot. When looking at it, one can notice that the cabin windows are about 30% larger than on the G450/550. Also, it's a much fatter aircraft, finally matching cabin volume of the Global Express. The easiest thing to spot though is the cockpit wrap-around windscreen, which has a m...

Re: Over seas gig

It depends what you fly and in what capacity. Nowadays you can get a left seat position in the Middle East, Africa or Asia if you currently fly a Challenger or bigger. Even Airlines offer rotation jobs now, i.e. A320/737 in China 6 weeks on 2 weeks off type of deal. imho, I would not stick with Cana...

Re: Pilot charged for bond he never signed

We went to a remote airport in northern China a few weeks ago and had to take a navigator, because the aerodrome wasn't in our database, nor did the controllers there speak english. Turns out the navigator is a pilot for Air China. The company trained him ab initio and since he got several type rati...

Air Transat Layoffs

I heard a few days ago from a buddy of mine, who works at Air Transat, that he just received a layoff notice. He's been with them for over three years and didn't get layed off last time, meaning this time the cuts are deeper. Unless I missed it: Why is no one talking about this. Especially when Sunw...

Re: Peter Shewring, Canadian aviation icon, passes on

I had the pleasure of meeting Peter about 10 years ago, taking the Aerocourse and sometimes giving him a ride from YVR to YYJ. I remember standing in front of the huge map in the Juan Air office with him and discussing the various regions of the beautiful province of BC. Peter lived aviation. There ...

Loss of License insurance

Hey there,

I'd like to find out about Loss of License insurance. Does your company provide ie it or do you purchase it yourself? and also who will provide it?

I only got one quote so far and it is hugely expensive ($2500 p.a for $300000 coverage)

Thanks,

SUNWING never had a starting wage of 65K for F/O. It's 48K first year, 60K 2nd year and goes up from there. it is 20% below par with skyservice and even more with air transat. however, there's a lot of overtime and if you have enough seniority you can go for uk deployment, which enables you to save ...

SWG is a pretty good company. money is not the best (if compared to skyservice or transat), but ok. it beats ac for the first two years and then you're behind for the rest of your career moneywise and otherwise i.e. benefits etc.. they do have big plans and will be seeing huge expansion for the upco...
