Re: Pilot with Cruise-Only Hours - Where to Star
While I pretty much agree, I can say that at AC, as an RP you no longer get an FO MPV/LOE (PPC) and as such aren’t qualified to act as co-pilot. Not arguing what you had to say, because I somewhat agree with your logic, but as an SO/RP at my company, we do a full P1 type rating course. i.e. the ini...

Re: Pilot with Cruise-Only Hours - Where to Start?z
Here is a thread from 2007. Some of the factors have changed. There is no legal requirement to have an ATPL to be FO on a transport category aircraft, only an IATRA. So at the time, the FE/SO could sit sideways until their seniority allowed them to hold right seat. Then go there and log their time ...

Re: Pilot with Cruise-Only Hours - Where to Start?z
I’m sure there is an exception somewhere in the past, but to be hired by AC you require an ATPL. So nobody is applying for a licence with RP hours, they already have it. Once you have all your licences the only requirement is to keep a personal log. So you can put it in whatever column you like. Fa...

Re: Pilot with Cruise-Only Hours - Where to Start?
I decided to go overseas to probably the same international airline. On one hand, it was a great decision because hiring has come to a stop at this airline (at least for SO's) and I lucklily squeezed my way in in before that happened. Beats being stuck at a regional while the industry slows down; re...

Re: If at First You Don't Succeed....Try, Try Again
Is anyone aware of any other airline in the world that does this? if it is so important, I wonder if British Airways, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, or any American carrier do this? Ours is more nuanced. Below 80 call Mayday if required. Above 80 it's a Mayday call because it's now in the highspeed ...

Re: Anyone else having a tough time getting hired?
Yeah, but have you ever tried to get a European license? It’s not a matter of memorizing the answers to a short multiple-choice quiz like it is here. It’s an actual accomplishment. I know. I'm in the process. 13 exams of fun. Let us know how the left seat of the airbus is at 1500 hours, curious to ...

Re: Flat bid for Decemeber
Hopefully there are no further delays for 787-10 and XLR orders. If we’re schedule to receive them starting Q1 2026 then Feb bid or 25-02 should have some of those positions. New seniority numbers just came out, nothing too drastic. Averaging around a 100 retirees a year. Will the XLR be a separate...

Re: Summer Ground School
Ok, so why would they even bother to state 500 PICUS or… since every single pilot who has a commercial licence qualifies for the or 70 PIC ….. That being said, has any company upgraded a 1500 hour FO to the left seat? I would think the reality is upgrades are likely 5-10 years with much more total ...

Re: Dash FO to captain upgrade time
With 1000TT and 500 hours on the E170 type, would it make more sense to join as an FO on the Q, upgrade to Q Capt and then transition to E2 Capt or would it make more sense to just wait a year until meeting E2 FO mins and skip the Q? I think I would quite enjoy the Q and I would like to get some tra...

Re: Summer Ground School
I'm surprised they're even hiring FO's right now. There's 20+ reserve lines out of 50ish on my fleet at each base because there is no Captains to be paired with. Whenever somebody upgrades, there's retirements and movement to AC/other airlines that negates what could have been a positive effect on r...

Latest update with updated Westjet/Flair pay. regionals.JPG nb.JPG wb.JPG My personal opinion is that there is still so much work needed on FO starting pay throughout the industry. Time is the enemy with compound interest, so if you're investing your money for retirement, paying off student debt, et...

Re: Updated salary tables 2024
it would be awesome to be able to see work rules, vacation, other QOL as well because as we know $$ isn't everything. I agree and I've thought about doing that but it's tough to find that information without the contracts in front of me and it would also be quite time consuming to put it all togeth...

Expat Flying
Are there any expat airlines still worth making a career out of anymore? It's frustating seeing the QOL decline in Canada by most metrics, but it seems like a lot of the "classic" expat airlines like Emirates, Cathay, etc are no longer what they once were. Reading this forum or pprune would lead one...

Re: Example Schedule
The bulk of pairings were either 2 day or 4 day pairings this month, but almost all of them received higher block time averages, shorter sits, and in general just more efficient turns. On the E175 I'm still seeing a decent amount of 3-4 hour sits. Also lots of sits that are just slightly longer tha...

Re: A potential career with all the automation & artificial intelligence coming out
It’ll happen but nobody can predict when and how it will go down. My gut tells me it will happen sooner than we think. You can argue all day about the safety aspect or how many obstacles there are, but my pessimistic view is that companies will salivate at the cost savings (even more so as we negoti...

Howdy! My first time posting/asking something here…so i am thinking of going to flight school at MFC and would like to take the ICPC. Re: Getting stationed out of YYZ
Most new hires on the Q end up with YYC. Some will transfer during course to YVR. There are some who later transfer to YYZ through standing bid. Not sure about the RJ, but imagine close to the same. As for Embraer, they end up with either YUL or YYZ. I doubt thinking you can do a DEC to any 705 car...

Any updates on the benchmarking? Also have any of the growing pains subsided now that deliveries have slowed down? Having over 1000 hrs on the E1, I can tell you I like the plane. I bet the E2 is even better. The question I have. Who the hell decided to design that yoke? It's the most idiotic thing I've had the "pleasure" to fly. 1. It's shape stupid (I get why. It's supposed to match your hands when they're "a...

Re: SARON question
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I’ve been stumped by this question and I don’t get the explanation provided. The tropopause is defined by the lapse rate reducing to zero. It’s not a pressure altitude i.e. FL360. If the MSL pressure was higher, that would imply divergence on the surface, but conve...
