Re: Which sh!tty operator is advertising internationally?
I'm willing to bet half my salary, that Canada is the one of the worst countries in the world when it comes to pilot salaries / cost of living ratio. When a captain can't afford a 2 bedroom condo near his home base, something's wrong. (And spending 50% of your take home pay on a home is NOT affordab...

Re: Any plans for Socialized bidding?
Ground schools are full without you. You want to wait longer and have worse seniority? Cool. You want to stay where you are? Cool. Either way, the people that made the risky move of jumping to Porter early on in the Jet expansion also now are benefiting from their move and I very much doubt they wi...

Re: Any plans for Socialized bidding?
People show up because Porter decided to pay people accordingly. Lots of airlines have jets... Yes you're right. When I said "because we ordered jets" I was referring to the position as a whole, not just the physical jets. Sorry that was obtuse On a side note, although I don't work for Porter but a...

Re: Any plans for Socialized bidding?
Ya sorry thats going to be a hard no from most of us here (except maybe the one FOAG guy that keeps talking about it). We didnt sit around for a year and a half during Covid - thinking we’d be getting our jobs back “in a few more weeks” - to start spreading love (socialized bidding) with people tha...

Re: Flight Training - Criminal Record
What were you arrested for? I can give you a complete answer once I know. Youll be able to do flight training. However, if it's drug related, there is a good probability that you will not pass your security clearance for your Restricted Area Identification Card which is a precondition of employment...

Re: Emirates or Air Canada
I don't know the details of the benefit package at Emirates but I have a friend who, years ago, had a sports injury at Etihad and was not paid anything for months while he recovered. You are a contractor so it you're not available, you're not paid. At least that's the way it worked then. I am not a...

Re: Emirates or Air Canada

Pros: - Great salary and benefits - New aircraft - Amazing destinations and layovers - UAE is a great place to live. It's safe, warm and peopl...

I was taxiing on Alpha to runway 23 a few nights ago and I saw it in the AC Hangar. Is it being worked on by AC engineers, or did Airbus / AF send out its people from France?

Re: Canadian Air Force
I am curious how the RCAF is doing in attracting pilots? With the civilian world offering much better pay, lifestyle, benefits and stability for your family, I can't imagine why anyone would pick the military vs the civilian world.Sure, you can't fly a CF-18 at Air Canada or Westjet, but you can hav...

Re: Take-off Configuration after Type 4
Stupid question:
Some checks, such as Trims are done before pushback, knowing that we would have to de-ice and no flight control checks are to be done until after de-ice procedure. Why do we do trim checks (rudder, roll and pitch) before we de-ice?

How does the BTV (Brake to Vacate) system work in this scenario? I think the A350 has that. (Sorry I don't fly any Airbus planes)

I found a post with that YouTube video of that guy I don't care to watch. There are a few links online to "Collective Agreements" but they seem to be out of date. Re: Lufthansa in SFO
It’s not SFO’s fault the Lufthansa pilots don’t know how to look outside and fly the plane. I can fly a visual approach. If my company tells me tomorrow that I'm not longer allowed to do it, does that mean I no longer know how to "look outside and fly the plane"? Come on... Many airlines are not al...

Re: Open up new bases already !
I’m a little shocked the Porter/Jazz/Encore and others haven’t developed a robust basically live anywhere we fly system yet as a way of Pilot attraction and retention. Maybe it will come and it’s probably too early in Porters expansion that the frequencies on routes don’t support it yet. While Port...

Re: Open up new bases already !
I think it's a fair point. With YYZ being so expensive, lots of pilots move further and further away from that base. Some of us, myself included, live so far away from YYZ we can't make the 2 hour on call notice. If Porter had an E175 YOW base, I'd be very inclined to put my resume in (Embraer exper...

Re: Flight Benefits at Air Transat for pilots and their families
Thanks for the replies everyone. No, I'm not considering going to Transat only for the travel benefits. That's part of my decision though. I have family in Europe and we travel there often (3 - 4 times a year, mostly on Lufthansa, LOT and Austrian) The two main reasons I want to go to Transat are: 1...

Flight Benefits at Air Transat for pilots and their families
Can someone let me know what type of flight benefits Air Transat has for its pilots? I imagine we can use Air Transat to fly standby, as employes, but what about: 1. Is Air Transat on my ID travel? Can pilots book standby on Lufthansa, LOT and Qantas? (I often fly those airlines) 2. Can pilots and t...
