Re: Jazz vs. WestJet comparison: 1 year later

Just another explanation on ESP, it is an optional 20% raise. To get the extra 20% you have to defer 20% of your base pay for a year. That's a sacrifice most would consider worth it. Having said that you don't have to take the extra 20% of pay if you don't want. I have never regretted being all in, ...

Re: Hiring/Matrix Questions

Couple of comments; -Yes it is possible to get hired without internal recommends, so don't let that hold you back from applying. Obviously the internal helps, but I know Dave has mentioned that we do hire some without. -As for the PIC--my understanding is that the 1000 multi PIC is not a hard requir...

Re: RNP "Short Gate"

It's unfortunate when some people have so little humility and believe they know how to do a bunch of peoples jobs better than those that actually do the job everyday. It gives us pilots a bad name, although those personalities exist in all professions. Probably the same type who would be outraged wh...

Just out of your thirties? That would put you near the average age for new hires. Plenty your age or older.

Re: Westjet changes delivery schedule, and adds to order

We don't staff on a 'crews per airplane' basis. We staff based on block hours to be flown. As Dave mentioned, as utilization changes then the 'crew per airframe' number will fluctuate. We currently have 915 pilots total, and what, 77 planes (not sure)? That gives a little less than 12 pilots per mac...

Frog legs,

Go somewhere worthy of you, and somewhere you are wanted. Cuz' ya ain't here with that attitude.

PS I've never used the 'then go somewhere else' line before, but it rare situations it really does fit.

Re: ATS a la mode

Triple J, you are talking about non-vnav approach, ccr was doing a non-rnp w/vnav path guidance approach. And yes CCR, what you did was correct, no need to cycle the FD's. And I would agree, I don't know why JD ended up doing this while in VNAV other than having too much fun on his pairing. Another ...

Re: Does the coolaid really taste as sweet as it sounds?

JD, gotta give you a thumbs up on your last post. We are the company. Apparently some people don't get that. It isn't them and us, it is all of us trying to make a good thing and make sure it lasts. I'll make sure I see past the smoke and mirrors that are the people that are whining before they even...

Re: Does the coolaid really taste as sweet as it sounds?

Any time a complaint starts with 'I heard....' it makes me a little nauseous. Most of the time 'I heard...' ends up completely or partially wrong. How about you wait until you are certain, have read, or know as fact. Then we could discuss the reality, along with the appropriate context. For some rea...

Re: Does the coolaid really taste as sweet as it sounds?

Why am I skeptical. I remember when the last agreement came out, and quite a few people didn't understand it and were panicking.

Well, since you saw it, when is it coming out for the rest of us?

Re: To the crew of WJA659 Feb 23/2009

Tony, I re-read the initial post again, just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I don't see the issue still. This FA decided to be more deliberate about the inspection, I don't see the issue even if it is nothing more than an non-required triple check from an unqualified individual. This is not a ...

Re: To the crew of WJA659 Feb 23/2009

Tony, seems you have managed a different interpretation of the original post than I. It sounds like an FA took a look at the wings, so that if there was anything that concerned him or her they would relay those concerns to the flight deck crew. Not that they were specifically asked to do an official...

Actually the percentage of Jazz hires is surprisingly low--I can't remember the exact number, but it is well below 50%.

Those places mentioned have good experoence for us, but we hire from lots of places. Trust me.

Re: Is it a bird? A plane? VNAV? ...No,

So just to get this straight, you don't know 737's, and you don't know the details of the Helios event, but you do feel you know enough to lay it entirely at the crews feet? Hmmmmm. Maybe this is why we are supposed to be cautious of making judgements without all the facts. Should they ha...

Re: Is it a bird? A plane? VNAV? ...No,

As in any accident there were certainly several layers of 'swiss cheese' that the accident chain made it through, but it is blatantly obvious that it is a poorly designed system from a human factors standpoint. Having flown the 37 for several years now I can easily see how airplane design assisted i...

Re: Is it a bird? A plane? VNAV? ...No,

Well you provided the pre-emptive response to 'why did you feel the need to descend at 1500 fpm--just because you were in the states??'. But that is worthy of a couple of pages of debate on it's own. And 'not mandatory unless they are hand flying'....well they need to call the mode change, and if th...
