Re: Falcon 2000EX and 900EX Aircraft Flight Manuals
Hi Sorry for the problems you have been having. The manuals were put on a free file storage site over 10 years ago so I can imagine that they are not available anymore. Unfortunately I no longer have the manuals for the Falcon 2000EX as I now fly a Falcon 7X and 8X. The site www.smartcockpit.com has...

Re: A320 Level-D sim, YVR
I would save my money. Getting a type rating put on your Canadian license is just paperwork. (Although when I did it you needed to request the TR within one year of your initial training.) I recomend that you just let the IR lapse. The important part is not having to write the INRAT again when or if...

Re: Turbofan Icing Protection?
Should posting the below link break a rule of this board, I apologize to the mods. I could not find the posting rules. An excellent site for technical information on how things work on most any aircraft from a Caravan on up is http://www.smartcockpit.com/ There you may consult the actual aircraft ma...

A Cold Front from 41,000 ft as compared to a Weather Map
In the spirit of “all knowledge is good knowledge”, I post this: I was flying from Palm Springs California to Pittsburgh in October 2013 at 41,000ft, when I came across a situation that I thought might be useful for students and Instructors alike. These pictures are of a Cold Front that crosses Kans...

Re: B737-200 quiz/practice exams
Hi I am unfamiliar with the PANAM exam. For years I carried in my flight bag a manual and flash cards published by Canova Aviation Publications. I found them to be extremely thorough and easy to understand, both for myself and the students/trainees. At the risk of breaking a posting rule, they can b...

Re: Does aircraft weather radar detect traffic?
Weather Radar most definitely can detect other aircraft, although it is sort of incidental to its main purpose. If your question is “can you see all the other aircraft on radar like ATC can?”, then no you can’t. On B- 737-200’s without TCAS we used to routinely play with the tilt to paint traffic th...

Re: Radiation monitoring badges.
Your friend could use the link below to calculate his exposure. We do. We (read me) also have to issue a yearly report on everyone's exposure to comply with IS-BAO. Cockpit monitoring devices are only required above FL 490 where we are registered (Bermuda). http://jag.cami.jccbi.gov./cariprofile.asp...

Re: Slipping 172 with full flaps
I got this from here. The Cessna 172 Club. http://www.cessna172club.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=67547 It seems like an interesting site for the Cessna 172 crowd. The article the origional poster (Mr. Jeff Jacobs) posted on 11/Feb/12 refers to an article that is a bit dated (1991), b...

Re: IFR Renewal / Type Rating in US
Hi No, it does not count towards your Canadian IFR. I have been down that same road for a couple of decades now. There is some very good news though. As you are working outside the country flying for a commercial operator, you fall under CAR 421.49 Renewal of Instrument Rating, Section 6. It effecti...

Re: seriously..!!!
True enough 2R. However, an “uncontained catastrophe…fire or serious fuel leak” are hardly the simple engine failure/shutdown scenarios that the regulations and I were referring to. These situations would necessitate an emergency landing with the requisite mayday call no matter how many engines you ...

Re: seriously..!!!
While some very worthwhile opinions have been aired here about pilots not declaring an emergency when they should, the circumstances in the OP’s post did not warrant a “Mayday” call. A single engine failure on an aircraft with three or more engines is not considered the same as for an aircraft with ...

Re: laser eye surgery medical question
For all the habitual Transport Canada bashers out there; the restrictions in place for LASIK are not a Transport thing. They are an ICAO thing. I was looking into it myself. Straight from the horse's mouth. http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/opssvs/cam-eyesurgery-75.htm Excerpt: Who needs to know...

Re: drift formula
All very interesting indeed, and yet the OP (with a total of 7 posts I might add) poised a simple question as to how he/she might acquire a WCA and GS formula for a spreadsheet. Perhaps it is a school project or possibly a mental exercise. Who cares? A direct question was posted by a fellow AvCanadi...

Re: drift formula
Actually it is not basic trigonometry, especially for the ground speed. eg. With a 90 degree cross wind you would expect the ground speed to be the same as the TAS. That is not the case. There is a loss in ground speed due to you having to correct into the wind for drift. TAS 120 and 90 degree X-win...

Re: Fishin' for Greasers.
When I was a brand new F/O on a DC-10-30 in '91, my very first line instructor was an old school Captain who told me: "If you come back one day and tell me you greased it on, well that son is skill. Congratulations. If you tell me you greased two in a row, that is just luck. If you tell me you greas...

Re: A320 Engine Fire
This is a good thread and is probably the most misunderstood emergency by initial pilots. A simple fire alarm in a pylon mounted jet engine on the wing should be somewhat of a non-event. If the fire was not a result of an uncontained failure (e.g. KABOOM…) resulting in possible structural damage fro...

Re: UV exposure in the cockpit
While there is a lot of talk about UV rays in Canada I am amazed that there is not much said about Cosmic Radiation. I fly a Bermuda registered aircraft. I am required by the OTARs (their CARs) to track the amount of Cosmic Radiation absorbed by our crews. One of our guys flew for China Airlines and...

According to "West's Encyclopedia of American Law, edition 2 Copyright 2008", I would suggest that the learned Judge was correct in querying Schuck's grasp of the subject matter. After having perused numerous law sites and their definitions of the terms involved, (purely for the educational benefit ...
