Re: WB FO Hire?
Evening, The 87 at WestJet does not have a full initial course. From the start of the 87 flying, the pilot training manual had an approved short type rating course that required 2 years of 37 experience. Was not a petty position on the companies behalf, just a misunderstood reality of the details of...

Re: westjet hiring?
Plus several dozen geriatrics are staying on past retirement which doesn’t help with hiring. Those are our colleagues and fellow pilots - if you can't keep the conversation civil without attacking fellow pilots, do us a favour and just keep it to yourself! WestJet controls the operation of that pro...

Re: Pilots thinking of leaving WJ due to 16 year upgrades
"addition of 3-6 widebodies (150-300 pilots)" How would the addition of 6 widebodies result in 300 vacancies? That is some crazy pilot/fin ratio "AR program termination (40-70 pilots over the next two years)" -Jazz just implemented an AR program to avoid the inevitable civil rights case that they w...

Re: Pilots thinking of leaving WJ due to 16 year upgrades
My .02 cents or should I say $2.00 with JT Inflation. Change has been a constant at WestJet for my entire career, as any human we fear change. As a pilot who calculates risk and practices mitigation strategies everyday. We calculate our career paths from hour 1 trying to make the best decisions to s...

Re: “2” on Initial/Recurrent PPC
We are creatures of habit and I believe you've already learned more about the singular mark than you would have if you had received a 3 or 4. Don't give it a second thought when it comes to upgrades. When time comes for your upgrade I'm sure you can request your Pilot Training Record and look for co...

Re: 705 ops applications
It all depends on timing with this industry. For the most part the more qualifications you can check off on the application the better. During periods of slower hiring it becomes more competitive and the recruiters can scrutinize the application vs others - usually by weighting points to certain ite...
Re: ETOPS?
WJ doesn’t have any extra pay for ETOPs/redeyes so a lot of pilots have no interest in it. The YVR base is all qualified due to the Hawaii flying. YYZ is mostly trained I believe due to the Europe flying. YYC seems to have enough volunteers that they don’t force anyone. That's not correct, pay on t...

Damage was not limited to flaps, slats, and spoilers alone. The top surface of aircraft as well as the horizontal stabilizer on some sustained damage and need to be mapped and addressed in consultation with Boeing. These aircraft require more than swapping parts.

Re: Merger Board Order
Gentlemen, Positional arguments based on unknowns at this time is only adding fuel to the fire. Attempting to change a colleagues mind over web forums, chats, or text messaging is the wrong medium. WestJet's executive will determine the future business model for WestJet. What was true for both compa...

Re: Potential GroundSchool dates
I have an interview with WJ in August, anyone know what months WJ plans on running Groundschools?? Depends on you experience. If you are around 2000 you will be pooled until u hit 2500-3000 if not Sep/Oct you'll be in GS Ground schools are not populated by total time, we have had many with less tha...

Re: YYC Parking
Another option, hear me out here... All airlines provide free parking to their FAs. There's quite a few of them that don't own cars and either take the bus or Uber for early mornings. Maybe you knew one, you could work out a cash deal for their parking pass. Maybe start on one of the crash pad grou...

Re: Sunwing/Westjet
I hear sunwing has double the pilots that their aircraft require? Max deliveries in question etc… It's more complicated than that - you need to understand the business model. We are certainly not overstaffed for the winter season. This was a major reason we had TFW's in the winter to keep staffing ...

Do the interviews for both airlines to gain experience with HR behavioral Interviews. Throughout the remainder of your career you will have to learn the STAR technique and answering situational scenarios for future carriers. During this interview remember its as much your responsibility to show up w...

Re: Will WJ pilots pick up overtime and Encore routes during an Encore strike?
I'm sure our fleet is utilized to its capacity right now with some eastern flying coming back this summer and more service announced out of several bases to the states. As mentioned above the routes solely operated by Encore that do not have WJ jet service could not be filled by WJ pilots. Those rou...

Re: 737 Overstaffed
I understand the angst and disappointment regarding flow from Encore to WestJet with the uncertainties of Sunwing integration. I'm not surprised to hear that flow has slowed. The hiring at WestJet this year has also given the unknowns with the integration and the uptake to pilots vs planes. I certai...

Re: 737 Overstaffed
This post is coming off the rails pretty fast. Lost of emotion driving personal opinion vs factual information depending on what colour of tail you presently fly. I'll chime in here as a WestJet pilot who does work within the training department to say that the cadet program Sunwing offers should NO...

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority
There is a team on the 2nd floor who have been meeting for a few months now internally and with Sunwing in YYZ reviewing SOP. Their obviously will be some changes on both sides as they progress. Some changes on our end I'm sure will bridge the gap to what Sunwing currently uses, while Sunwing will h...

Re: Updated salary tables 2024
WS pilots have been cash poor, T4 rich for a long time, having a high pension match, profit share, etc is great, but I know several people who are paycheque to paycheque and can't afford to opt in to the pension there and at my airline. Your information is out of date and factually incorrect co-joe...

More WestJet misinformation being spread through their politburo (the globe and mail). Flair hasn't cut any flights at all, let alone 600 of them. Not one. Can you point out exactly where in this article any information or comments came from Westjet? Do I really need to? WestJet spends 30 Million d...
