Re: Summit Air Ramp Wait
Yes, pack your car and start driving. Hit up every place you can. Plan your route to end in Yellowknife. If you haven't landed a job yet, try to get on at Summit. Keep looking for work all the time. Call all the places that seemed promising during your road trip. Keep that name associated with a fac...

Re: NDB approach
Statistics that claim you are more likely to crash on subsequent approaches are an insult to our profession. If you buy into this bullshit, you need to rethink your thinking process. I shoot as many approaches As I feel productive. I promote this policy at my place of work. To not shoot a viable app...

Re: AME student looking for some advice.
I am not an AME myself, so I have limited advice, but if you are young in life and not tied down by mortgages and other such things, I would recommend looking at companies with a wide variety of aircraft types. Many of these companies are off the beaten path, so even the good ones have some natural ...

You don't work only 6 months per year. You work all year on a rotational gig. People who consider a two on/two off or month on/month off, to be only working half the year, are only kidding themselves. "My dad worked a Monday to Friday gig with an eight hour shift. Wow, he only worked a third of the ...

Re: Gravel Road / Private Unprepared Landings Surfaces
This may not be the best place to learn how to do off-strip flying. As soon as you start deciding where an airplane can be landed (and taken-off again), the are countless factors to consider. You should be having a long conversation, face to face with someone experienced in this type of flying. Eith...

Re: Behchoko Crash NWT??
Donald, I certainly did not intend to condemn this pilot. I was clear in pointing out that I had the benefit of hindsight when saying I would likely stay on the ground if I was flying a caravan. I guess without that, I may very well have gone. Hard to say. I stand corrected a little on the Icing in ...

Re: Behchoko Crash NWT??
Oh, I also wanted to talk about that TAF. Why was there no Icing mentioned in the TAF? People seem to be very quick to ignore this because icing was in the GFA, but that still does not excuse the fact it should have been in the TAF. Just looking at that GFA, it seems like textbook material. Anybody ...

Re: Behchoko Crash NWT??
I use the GFA everyday. I feel it gives me the best overall picture of what I may expect weather wise, as well, it later helps me understand what I encounter during flight. Had I been at work that morning, the GFA (clouds and weather) would have been my main source for weather information. I don't t...

Re: Behchoko Crash NWT??
I like your thoughts regarding the outcome Trey. This flight should not be described as a success. However, I believe the pilot did an outstanding job of staying calm and professional. I think there is little to debate about his handling of the situation. There is much to debate regarding the events...

Re: Want to fly to Englnad in a Lancaster Bomber ?
It always amazes me how many people just don't get it (or pretend to not get it), but still feel the need to comment. If money was not a factor, I'd be signed up already. The "novelty" would not wear off in the first hour. Comparing the money spent on this trip to the cost of a checkout on a modern ...

For the last few years, I have been claiming them on line 229 (other employment expenses). I fill out form T777 and put all my expenses on line 9270. I have been claiming my medical and the $55 Transport Canada administration fee, and have not been questioned or audited on it yet (I think it has bee...

Re: Probably the best written flying job ad ever
I'm confused. I don't have an ATPL, but I can still apply if I pay for my training?
Anyways, great ad. I don't live near Toronto, and have no desire to fly a jet, But this job sounds so good, I almost want to apply.

Snoopy, You say the thread is "irrelevant". In the same post you said you have worked for one employer, which you have "great respect" for, that considered bearing children put an "unfair burden on a small business". I believe there are other employers who feel the same way both inside and outside o...

Re: Hiring child-bearing age females
To continue... Shimmy talked about the responsibility to hire the best candidate for the company. I agree, to do anything less, would be letting the rest of the company down. Every employee at the company is relying on people to make the best decisions so that it is strong and stable. So if you are ...

Re: Hiring child-bearing age females
AirSprint HR, You are correct, no two candidates are ever equal. But when you are comparing two candidates, you will always have likes or dislikes of each individual. Is child rearing given much consideration when listing pros and cons of a potential employee? (I understand that a direct answer in w...

Re: Hiring child-bearing age females
I was not asking anything about law. I was hoping this wouldn't become a discussion about legalities or interpretation of law or what clause of the charter or precedence has been set. I simply asked the question. Let me expand on it. You have two candidates with equal credentials. One is a 25 year o...

Hiring child-bearing age females
As a spin-off of Doc's sexist thread, I ask this question. Let's pretend you are a person involved in hiring new pilots at one of Canada's bigger small operators (North Caribou, Perimeter, Transwest, Westwind, Ledcor, Discovery, etc. etc....). You are looking to hire a new low-time pilot who you exp...

People with young children at home often crave Adult conversation. Not much point logging into Avcanada. Seriously though, I do commend people who are making the juggling act of career and family work.
At the risk of hijacking this thread... never mind, I'll start another thread.

Re: The most embarrassing plane pooping story ever.
My personal preference is to use the milk crate (usually one in the back filled with spare oils and herc straps), lined with a garbage bag. Black or orange garbage bags work, but I find the black ones to be most discrete. The milk crate has good handles which help with maintaining position over the ...
