Re: Diamond Crash
I wonder how many other airplanes were not wired correctly from the factory. On 24 November 2023, Diamond Aircraft Industries Inc. issued a mandatory service bulletin (MSB), DAC1-25-05, to highlight safety issues with the DA20-C1 series aircraft and, specifically, the installation of the ARTEX ELT 1...

Re: How will this effect flight school's
Judge Anne Turley has just ruled in the case of the Thunder bay confederation college that the people working on aircraft maintenance do not fall under the federal government but the provincial government because it's education this will have a ripple effect to all the flight schools in Canada, All...

Re: Winter ski operating temps
I have seen a lot of home made heaters using a camping stove, ammo box, and SCAT hose. These seem to work when the planes parked overnight bringing the oil temp up in an hour or so. For peace of mind, I'd recommend you install a Tanis or Reiff engine heating system and carry a small (one kw) genera...

Good job with everyone involved, you never know what someone will do their first solo. I hope she sticks with the flying.

35 is not to old and 10 days a month is plenty of time. I have seen many people older working full time do what have done.

Re: Pivot Airlines - RCMP knew there might be drugs on the plane
This was a terrible event for everyone on the crew that was locked up and detained. When I was operating airplanes in countries with drug problems (this includes the US) we never left the planes unattended on the ramp. This seemed to deter people from placing items on the airplane that did not belon...

Yeah, please do tell. I'm all for making bad companies known to the public but I've generally had good experiences with them as a customer. Very professional. If you are going to throw mud around, at least justify it with an explanation. How companies treat customers can be totally different on how...

Sounds like the cowls were not secured before the flight, not the first time this has happened to an airplane and unfortunately won’t be the last.

Re: Is it really all that bad?
My advice to you as a student is that most of the negative comments that you see in online forums can't be vetted so you should take them with a grain of salt as these types of forums tend to cater to malcontents. For example, some people will gripe about being underpaid no matter how much they are...

I can also recommend Stratford Air Services, great airport and great school. Diamond has turned down many students in the past and present including myself because they are too busy. Have you even spoken to them to see if they are taking students not enrolled in the Fanshawe or Western programs? STF...

Re: Employer Reviews
Again, any employer with 15-20-25 job ads up at any one time is a red flag. It doesn’t matter how big or old the company is, nothing is expanding that fast, and the workers are out there to fill those positions at any given time. Even if there’s that many vacancies, WHY ARE THEY VACANT? It’s even g...

Re: Is it really all that bad?
People get divorced, travel, work shifts and weekends in other occupations. Working in manufacturing also will get you laid off when recessions hit and people aren’t buying new whatever. I have had a good run in aviation, could I have made more, could I have had more time off, who knows. What I do k...

Re: What to do...
Lots of maintenance companies use AME’s with a pilot license for moving customers, moving parts, test flights, etc. Any inspection larger than a 100 hour on a Diamond requires a test flight. If you’re serious about getting an AME license it takes about four years. As for a CPL with ratings you can d...
