Re: Who Wants to Fly WJ

Maybe have a look at that Westjet operation, if you want to talk about competence. How's that reduction bid looking now? Why was the operation "right sized" in the first place? How about the "we are overstaffed since the merger" crap that some still believe? Pilots will bitch about this or that, bu...

Re: Who Wants to Fly WJ

This is the most antiquated airline I've ever worked for. The regional airline I worked for in the early 2000s had better IT services. JDE and Rain Maker (should be Day Force). Wings, Trim, Flica, and WS Crew View for scheduling. Old SOPs and long checklist. Making manual altitude callouts on appro...

Article 107 has essentially made unions irrelevant in this country. FA’s, pilots, ame’s and every other unionized employee is essentially screwed going forward. All companies now know they get away with not negotiating.

It’s funny how many think fast upgrades at AC will continue forever.

Think about your age.

Think about the age if everyone hired there over the last few years.

Re: Why WestJet?

The company has played this perfectly, regrettably the Union has taken a short sighted view for half a dozen upgrades. No unity amongst the group doesn't bode well for CA3. I’ll bite. Even though I’m not a supporter of many current union officers (using their positions to push personal agendas over...

Re: Misc WJ questions

The long upgrade situation is unfortunate for new hires, but I do believe things will pick up in the next few years. There are things the company can control and things they cannot control. The age demographic of the workforce is one of those things outside their control. WJ is still a relatively yo...

Re: WestJet to Layoff 100+ Pilots

AC announced today their US loads are down 10%. Those 70% numbers floating around don't seem to be based on anything. My guess is, they will try and manage this through the temp 0 and partial block offerings allowed in our CA. If May's was any indication, we are about 20 over staffed. Running short ...

Re: Negotiating committee quits

The fact alpa operates behind some imaginary wall of secrecy is one of their biggest short comings. There is no reason these NC members couldn’t bring their issues to the pilot group. I’d much rather recall a rep than lose members of our nc (who were involved the last round and are a tremendous asse...

Not just a hiring freeze. mass layoffs are heading our way. They are predicting 1M+ job losses across the country. 500k in Ontario. A 2-3% hit to GDP. It is being compared to the 2008 financial crisis in terms of economic damage to canada. This might be the event that makes everyone at wj feel good ...

Re: Trump threatens immediate 25% tariffs on Canada

The tariffs have nothing to do with drugs. That is just an excuse for violating trade agreements. He said EU tariffs are next. He thinks tariffs are the greatest thing and it seems no country will be left being free of tariffs. This is his economic policy, NOT a drug policy. It is about bringing job...

This report is going to read much like PSA182 (San Diego, 1978) when it comes out.

VFR is the most dangerous set of flight rules. Give me RVR1200 and OVC001 everyday vs SKC and P6.

Avhearld is reporting the gear was down on the first approach (rw 01) and there is video of the number 2 engine being hit by birds. I’m starting to believe the smoke reports as it sounds like they made an urgent turn back for reciprocal runway - 19. This sure is going to be an interesting investigat...

No gear. No flaps. No spoilers.

A lot had to have gone wrong for all those systems to fail. System A and B. Alternate flaps. Manual gear.

Will be an interesting one to follow.

Re: WJ Merger Committee should he ashamed

Doesn’t a SW pilot also see a reduction in seniority as more WS pilots are folded in above him as well? A SW pilot took a huge risk by working for any Canadian tour operator (historically the hardest hit in Canadian aviation) for better lifestyle and advancement I think the question you should ask ...

Something looks to have been off the moment the plane took off. The speed and altitude looks to be erratic right from the start. Ground speed variations of 100, 150 + knots and climbs and descents. Altitude is normal. It's ADS-B ground speed that's fluctuating up and down. The same ground speed rep...

Based on today’s email from DP, this will drag on until the government steps in. They have dug in and can’t be seen as giving in to the union. They need the government to make it look like they didn’t lose. The above, mixed with the fact this federal government has to tread very carefully with labou...

The translation app he (and our other executives) are using must be as old as our IT infrastructure because they clearly misunderstood the CIRB decision that highlights a strike was still allowed.

Tick tick tick. Time is running out. I honestly do not wish a business closure on any fellow aviators, but this business model simply doesn’t work in Canada. Looking at the video, taxi chart, and atc, it looks like the coast guard was expecting an intersection departure, but given a hold short. If you slow the video down, you can see the dash 8 strobes moving at time of impact.
