It states that it is a 1983 Pitts.
This guy is just using the same model that helped sell the plane back then!

Re: Nominate Captain Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger for FAA
Sorry Nark, but I think this is a common problem within our community. We believe that because we can land a plane we can run a company or government. This guy can fly, no questions there, and he was very lucky landing in the Hudson. Does that qualify him for a position where he has to deal with a h...

Re: 6 Month PPC's for Cross Border Flight Ops!!!!!
This might be a rhetorical question but define operating in US airspace. ie I'm transiting through and picking up fuel on the way to Mexico for a few months of work - do I have to comply or is my line check sufficient based on the fact that I'm not doing revenue flying in US airspace? Splitting hai...

Re: Southwest Pilot + Stuck Mike + Pilot Rant = Suspension
What was funny was getting caught with his pants down saying it. For different reasons, many, many times I was in descent thinking "Please, let this not be the day they need to pull the CVR". A stuck mike is a more public way of getting humiliated, both for pilots and for ATC, but that CVR surely h...

Re: Can a Canadian fly a N-Reg plane in canada?
YES. It is very simple and it has been addressed many times before: You can legally fly anywhere in the ICAO world with either: a) A license from the country you are in (regardless of the registration of the plane) b) A license from the country where the plane is registered. That is the way it works.

Re: More news from the Center of the Universe! (CYTZ)
Continental got the slots for their feeder Colgan to use with Q400s. As far as I know, the Colgan aircraft and crew are not certified for steep approaches and may lack the comfort level to operate in and out of YTZ year round. The 16 slots would have given them only 8 round trips a day. Deduct what ...

No fare war between Porter and AC
Today AC published full page ads announcing the return of service from Toronto City to Montreal. I decided to look at the fares charged. Well for, as an example, May 11th and returning on the 12th, 7:40am departure and 6:30pm return, both airlines quoted exactly CAD 636.70 (to the cent). So I guess ...

Re: Dual to Catalina Island
Enjoy the flight.
Try to go using the VFR corridor above LAX and then continue South to the Zamperini / Palos Verdes area, then across to the island. Great views!
I used to fly from Whiteman and it was top notch sightseeing every time!
On an IFR day at AVX too!

Re: background check question
You have been charged, not convicted. The truthful answer to the question you will be asked, in this industry and in every other job application is: "Have you been convicted of a crime for which a pardon has not been granted?" Check the NO box, you would not be lying. You can be charged with any num...

Re: Burt Rutan Long-EZ
Get one. You will never have so much fun doing anything else with your clothes on. Some suggestions: Go for the O-320 engine. If the plane was properly built you will get 170 Kts, on some 25 lts/hour and a good climb to get you into the flight levels. Almost 8 hrs on a full tank is not bad either. D...

Hope things change for the better here. I know the Porter guys are also pissed off at the lousy response they get from these phone lines. At least they have the option of walking into the call center and sort it out. It should not be like that, especially when other airlines offer them the simple so...

Re: Can the public access your pilot career details?
Having screened and hired candidates in the past, I can attest to that data being confidential. At least in theory. When checking for references, the answer to the "Would you rehire this pilot?" question is usually all you need, without having to be any more specific. Still, some employers will give...

Remember that the incumbents had 100% of the capacity in WJ's world prior to 1996. It's amazing what happens when prices drop 40% overnight. Numbers don't lie. You can like or dislike them, but accept it as data and try to make good sense out of them. Obviously Realitychex knows quite a bit about t...

Re: Porter Airlines wins court battle over island landing sl
Can you imagine how AC/JZ flights will be treated at the Island? Their passengers probably segregated to non-Porter areas (no computers, lounge or snacks), the aircraft waiting for available gates and then paying a fortune for renting the gates, fuel, counter space and other ground services. Maybe P...

Porter has a lot to offer people. It depends on what you are looking for. Just ask the Skyservice guys that came. No its not perfect but it a pretty good gig Lets be realistic here. Zoom and Skyservice pilots went to the only company that was hiring pilots, and direct entry captains no less! I don'...

Re: Porter Application Question
If you use the search function you will get a lot of info about Porter, be prepared for the interview. From people who fly there: if you are qualified, they will offer you a captain's position. If they think you are not what they want at this time, then they will offer you an FO position. They will ...

Re: Words of advice for new pilots in this industry...
Good post! Just my $0.02: Fly for you, don't fly for others. Do what you think is right and safe. If someone asks you to go when you think you should not, say no. If you feel compelled to show someone what you are able to do, don't show off. Quite a few pilots' last words were "Watch this...". And r...

The load factor of 48% is a BREAK EVEN LOAD FACTOR not the actual load factor of the company! The company is still private up until the IPO, so Mr. Deluce is not going to actually advertise the true load factor of the company! Read the article a little more closely! Maybe YOU should do some more re...

Re: Porter Airlines cleared for IPO
Firstly, the C-Series cannot operate out of the island. Not sure what your source for performance is on the C-Series, but according to Bombardier the C-Series needs 4,950ft for T/O and 4,430ft to land! The Island's longest runway is 3,995ft long. Kinda short of those requirements! Correct, at maxim...
