You'd be lucky to get from the Porter FBO at YTZ to the Dome in 15 minutes with pre game traffic.
You can get Downtown form Pearson in less that 20 minutes...at 4am, driving fast.

Re: CYTZ/CPZ9 Docking Area
Thanks for posting those photo's Paul. Agreed, it's not an ideal set-up, fixed pipe docks just aren't float friendly, even with those side boards they are putting on. Still, good to see they are committed to keeping that airport float accessible. And they finally updated the PNR call-in number, no m...

Has anyone seen the finished set-up yet? Perhaps share a photo? I noticed the dock was NOTAM'd closed last week so assumed they were working on it.

Re: CYTZ/CPZ9 Docking Area
hmmm, I'm trying to imagine what those would be used for. Definitely not the best docks for floatplanes, unless they are just ramps that will go down to a larger floating platform? Hard to imagine them spending that kind of $$ on that facility. Scheduled commercial seaplane ops are not permitted at ...

Re: Ottawa RIver Departure under the Bridge
Back to the question of what qualifies a built-up area, I'll quote from a post I made on this site a few years ago There is a documented case of TC action against a Montreal based float operator who was using the Welland river near Niagara falls to land and drop off passengers. In that case, “built ...

Re: ice out 2014
Well, it's finally starting here in southern Ontario. Toronto harbor is now ice free, for those looking to get your floats wet. I'm guessing it'll be a couple weeks before the southern lakes (Scugog, Rice) are open.

Re: Float Aircraft down near Puslinch Lake, ON Oct 25 2012
My guess as to why Kuijer was not acting as flight instructor on that day was that he did not have the required qualifications (50 hrs on floats) to do so, hence why Hawkins was getting instruction from Orillia Aviation towards his float rating. The previous instruction given by Kuijer to Hawking wa...

Re: Float Aircraft down near Puslinch Lake, ON Oct 25 2012
Further developments on this one (long read) When this happened, I'd wondered why they were attempting a downwind/crosswind take-off on a 5000' lake, towards the steepest terrain on the lake, in an amphib 172, on a warm day. Unlocking or even cracking your door for take-off/landing
Can't help but notice the number of people who have drown, or nearly drown in upset floatplanes over the years. In many cases, potential rescuers couldn't get to them as the doors were locked from the inside. I've started to keep my door unlocked during take-off/landing (late 70's Cessna 172), sure,...

It was a 180, though I believe it was on CAP's. Based up the lake from us on Scugog. Very sad to hear about this, I've met the pilot involved, hope he pulls through.

"For those of you that golf, has anyone tried for permission to fly into Deerhurst, Huntsville? I'm sure there is food as well as the golf or a great weekend getaway" I've flown in there a few times, but just read at NOTAM that it is permanently closed, too bad, that was a great facility whenn it wa...

Re: Landing on the Red River
Right, so it comes down to what is the definition of “Built-up Areas of Cities and Towns” even then, someone needs notice and report you. I do allot of float flying in southern Ontario so did some research on this a while back, there is a well documented case of TC action against a Montreal based fl...

Re: TPA holds meeting to discuss GA at CYTZ
Thanks for the heads up on this, I plan to be there. I don't get in to YTZ that much anymore, but use the floatplane dock/ramp from time to time, so would like to see seaplane access (and GA in general) stay accessible at the island.

Re: Lycoming O540 J1A5D
That engine has an 8.5:1 comression ratio so should be ok on 91 or higher auto fuel. Other 0-540's were approved, not sure why that one wasn't. Perhaps because there were not enough engine & airframe combinations out there to justify the cost. Or is is there a fuel pump? that's usually a no go for a...

Re: Jack Roush's Premier 1A N6JR crash at Oshkosh . . .
Oh man, Oshkosh has got to be the most high exposure & embarrassing spot to have a landing mishap. Glad no one was killed. Yes, it was likely pilot error, but don't knock this guys piloting abilities just because he is a wealthy & fly's his own jet. Read the article, he has ant ATPL + over 4,000 hrs...

Re: Is Telus swapping their DHC2T for a Quest Kodiak?
Agreed, the Telus corporate colors do not compliment that aircraft. I was on the golf course up at Whistler last week & watched it take off, impressive. I couldn't find any performance numbers (with the whip floats) online. I'd be interested to see how it compares to a Turbo Beaver.

Re: Porter CEO sues Air Canada over free travel
LOL, if he thinks those passes are worth 5 million, I guess he's planning to live to the ripe old age of 100 or so, and do allot of travelling in retirement. Now I'm sure his accountants, lawyers, & PR people all vetted & approved this, but I sure hope those "free" passes were accounted for properly...
