Re: Angle of attack in a climbing turn
sorry my bad I had some cut and paste issues here is the rest of the quote absolute angle of attack = geometric angle of attack + k geometric angle of attack = absolute angle of attack - k where -k is the X-intercept of the graph of the coefficient of lift according to the “geometric” scheme, in whi...

Re: Angle of attack in a climbing turn
the reason I ask is when you make a broad statement like all aircraft desginers use this method but don't back it up with any proof I just was interested where the statment came from back to the topic at hand I think this kinda sums up what has been going on here its been borrowed from another site ...

Re: Angle of attack in a climbing turn
I just have a quick question for dr.aero
since you make repeated references to people's background in physics and/or aerodynamics may I ask what your experience is in these fields?

Re: Fueling with passengers on board?
Sounds about right if you look at your COM it is required to show your companies polices regarding fueling CAR 725.135 (v) see the COM isn't just useful for keeping the desk level in the crew room :D ps I'm looking up the 705 CAR's cause thats what I'm more familiar with but if needed you should be ...

Re: Fueling with passengers on board?
short answer yes long answer I belive you need to have it all listed in your COM and SOP's but you are looking for CAR 725.40 (2) fueling with passengers on board http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/regserv/cars/part7-standards-725-2173.htm#725_40 it tells you all of the requirements in order to d...

Re: GPS question.
I don't have a copy of my SOP's or COM sitting next to me but going from memory if its different by more than .02 it needs to be reported but can still be used if its over .05 it can't be used. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

Re: Training to use the radio
+1 hedley
remember the KISS theory for radio transmissions
slow down on the radio having to say everything fast twice usually takes longer then having to say it once at a normal speed

Re: Fly-by waypoints on non-overlay NDB approaches.
The only thing I can come up with is some GPS's have trouble with true tracks so this waypoint is there so you can set up a gps track on the inbound track off the NDB in the gps. This could also work with Non IFR GPS as a back up nav. note: if you are using a gps to fly a NDB or any approach that is...

I'm not disagreeing with you Dust Devil just saying what I have seen.
I actaully got given crap by a capt when I first started on a turboprop cause I was waiting for the IVSI to show positive in VMC conditions.

Re: VSI reversal error
Lurch I think its a "SOP" that devoloped in the FTU world that you required a positive rate on two intrsuments before bringing the gear up (i know this was the rule where I trained as well as different school where my friends trained). I suspect it has somthing to do with the fear that a student is ...

Re: VSI reversal error
Im sorry BTD but I have to disagreee with you on that one the plane I fly has static port forward of the main gear, Air Data Comupter, and an IVSI and it still has this same error during the take off roll and rotation (showing a decent for the first second or two of climb). I also dont' think VSI's ...

Re: VSI reversal error
I think it has to do with the inherent errors in a VSI. It has been awhile since i taught this stuff but I belive as VSI has a deley of 6 - 9 secs so bascially its always telling you information that is out of date. IE so if you were climbing and started decending it will show a climb while you are ...
