Re: Emirates or Air Canada

I would say wait for the new contract, as seniority does not matter at emirates for upgrades. However it’s everything in North America.

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority

If 60 pilot are redundant, why did Sunwing continue to hire if they are now owed by WJ? Why does WestJet continue to hire? The 60 redundant pilots are required for Sunwing's operation. SW knows guys are going to leave for AC. SW knows they need pilots for deployments this summer for vacation covera...

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority

The westjet merger committee indicated that sunwing must pass through the same efficiency crack down that westjet went through when acquired by onex, prior to merging the seniority lists. The committee also indicated if sunwing came without any efficiency changes approximately 60 pilot jobs would be...

Re: Thoughts on going to Canada as an Int Student & FAA Pilot?

It varies from country to country. In my home country, there are only two airlines and there's little hiring at the moment. Is the fixed-wing pilot industry bad in Canada? Will I be a competitive candidate with 1200 hours (800 as an instructor) for a decent pilot job in Canada? What's the annual sa...

Re: WestJet Sunwing merger and seniority

Hope its gonna be a fair " merge" . I think some westjet pilots still thinking they can Take all the benefits of the merge...and leave swg pilots behind But lets not forget its not westjet that is in command here..its a business company Onex who decided to merge 2 airlines ... What are the benefits...

I'm glad to hear. They should not be loading up their rosters when they are about to be merged into a larger airline.

I think by the time westjet starts running gs again, AC will have their new contract, and it will be difficult for Westjet to fill just like before CA2.

Can anyome here give tips on how to pick up overtime on flica. I'm new to westjet and could use some. I use alerts on flica but it seems like everypairing is already spoken for even if it's 1 or 2 mins after the alert. I understand some use bots and boo on them but the rest any tips would be apprec...

Re: Northern operator as a first job?

1500 hr instructors are getting hired at westjet, transat, flair and other airlines. This is simply not true Oh, but it is. Of course not all flight instructors would get hired, but certain ones are. Airline hiring is a mystery. Again, imagine being at a company on the ground when flying slows down...

Re: Northern operator as a first job?

Get your instructor rating and go to the airline asap. 1500 hr instructors are getting hired at westjet, transat, flair and other airlines. Airlines are fun, you get paid more, work less, and get travel benefits. You could use those to go explore the north on your many days off.

Re: ALPA files ULP against Jazz/AC

Hey is there any update on this yet? I hear the MEC is busy these days with WDO’s and flow doesn’t affect them anyways. Current MEC could care less about junior pilots with the goal to go to Air Canada. At the same time, these are pilots not hoping to make a career at jazz. So I don’t see a p...

So are airlines in Canada and CAE doing anything to stop bots, because based on how difficult it still is to pick up, the bots are still being used?

Re: Picking up opentime

Flica alerts are not very effective anyway. They are delayed by up to 5 minutes after open time is posted. So no advantage there anyway. I agree bots should be disabled. I have seen in pprune up to 200 pilots and flight attendants were fired at JetBlue after the company compared employee schedules t...

Re: Picking up opentime

The luck of the draw, open system is so strange to me. I’m not looking forward to it. Why not have the ability to list yourself available and then get notifications on open flights. It used to be like this to an extent. The problem was that in some instances there wasn't a lot of transparency. Peop...

Re: Realistic upgrade time

This exercise is a fool's errand. The upgrade time for FO's who've been around for 9 years is about 9 years+/- 1 year. The farther down the list goes, the greater the uncertainty. Keep in mind that, historically, the upgrade time is 15 years. For a 30 year career, 1/2 will be in the left seat, half...

Yes training bonds would only drive away more applicants. The “Beatings will continue until morale improves” method isn’t working.
