Re: TA REJECTED
Medical residents work far more than pilots (or CEOs for that matter) and make about $40K per year and are in their late 20's and early 30's, so I don't see much of an arguement for pushing first year FO pay beyond that. Once you start getting way up over $100K though, you lose me. The job simply i...

Re: Air Canada starting a LCC
Even if they could, Jazz wouldn't be ready until the beginning of June, maybe mid May. Some pilots are in training now, I'm not sure if they are even at the sim stage yet and as far as I know, we don't have delivery of our first q400 yet. If they really needed Jazz to start up the island flying, th...

Re: New TA reached!
"mbav8r" hit the nail on the head. Take a page out of ALPAs book. Get the word out, hold pubnights, family awareness days. I saw this quote and couldn't agree more. The Pubnights are actually " P ilot U nity B uilding" nights (which happen to occur at local drinking establishments across the countr...

Re: New TA reached!
If ACPA is concerned about Jazz and their '57 qualified pilots, they should be even more concerned about Sky Regional who apparently also has a few '57 qualified pilots in their midst, plus a management with even more experience in operating an Airbus/Boeing fleet than Jazz. There is a good reason A...

Re: Keep your heads down boys and girls.........
And by that I mean we have a ladder of progression on our wage scale that starts very low, artificially low, in the early years of employment, and ramps up over the course of one's career, and in fact, to overpayment in the final years, which allows our members to maximize their retirement earnings...

Thanks for the reply Dave,
I think we are both on the same page, I don't have any gripes myself. I just don't like to see others getting slammed when they speak up for themselves, even if it is just on a web board...

Re: Air Georgian Expanding Into 705 Ops
I believe the gap in this conversation is that there is a difference between "Scope" as defined in the ACPA collective agreement, and the "Small Jet Settlement Agreement" signed between AC and Jazz. "Scope" allows for a proportion of ASM's to be flown by Tier II carriers, regardless of seating capac...

Re: 757 for Hawaii?
Of course someone who hasn't been upgraded should be concerned about their upgrade. Thats the sad part about all of this. At least at Jazz I could speak my mind without fears of repercussions. And I happen to strongly believe that healthy debate is what keeps our eyes open for new ideas, opportunit...

PS. WJ started out with a couple of B737-200 hand me downs and built themselves up to a very good airline with a bright future. Clive and the lads knew how to start and run an airline. If this guy Rowe was so smart how come he couldn't do what ole Clive could do.. Even Clive has been quoted as sayi...

Re: Msg. to Jazz pilots (and cautionary tale for all pilots)
It's understandable that the concept of Status Pay on the surface looks like a method for driving down pilot wages across the board. Early on in this forum it was said that Jazz may continue to operate more and more heavy aircraft at below standard wages and take away work from companies (and pilots...

Re: Voyageur Airways
I've never paid for a bond and hope that I never will have to. But for those of you who detest the pilots that go to companies like Voyageur and take out a repayable bond for their job, I suggest you redirect your anger. I know a few pilots who worked for Voyageur when they never use to make pilots ...

Hey JZA, I wasn't trying trash the ground handlers, and I know that $10/ hr starting wages in YYC, YVR or YYZ might as well come with food stamps. I did that job once and those that make a career out of it deserve to be able to make a livable wage to raise a family, just like the rest of us. I was j...

Are higher wages realistic, though? Say, $45k to start, and $5k a year until $70k in the right? What does the company then say to the bag chuckers/wrench benders/ biscuit shooters when they want comparative raises? I spoke to a lead the other day in YYZ who made over 90 grand last year with overtim...

What I don't get is this... After having security screw-ups two days in a row in Calgary this summer they had to empty the terminal and re-screen everyone. After making the crews vacate the aircraft and make them walk through security, they then expected them to perform a security sweep on their own...

I doubt AC is looking to compete simply with YDF to YYT legs in a 1900 vs Dash/Saab. AC is recognizing the value of flying YYT to YYZ (with connections direct to YMM too). The 1900 is simply going to boost their load factor on the Airbus where the real money is made. By starting with the 1900 on the...

Didn't see the documentary, however I'm finding the discussion about oxygen vs altitude amusing. ie. At 15000 feet or FL380 if yours engines are still running, that means it's enough oxigen to feed the cabin fire too. Keep in mind at FL380 your engines have the advantage of several turbine compresso...

I loved my time instructing and it was a great entry job to aviation. Yes the pay is very poor, but so is the pay working the ramp in some northern town. I know other former instructors who now work for Air Canada, Jazz, West Jet, Cathay Pacific, and for Morningstar (Fed-ex 727's), so you can work t...

Do your research carefully. Some schools are absolutely great, others are on the verge of bankruptcy. Look for schools who have classroom instructors with a background in military or airline flying, and who's instructors have ATPL's. Their experiences are invaluable learning lessons. You will learn ...

Rockie, my original post was simply to point out that it is not only about who has the slots, it is the fact that Jazz was evicted and denied any future ground facilities to even maintain the few flights a day that they originally operated. On a side note I personally think Deluce had nothing to los...

I've heard alot of Dell bashing over the years but what you need to keep in mind is that you get what you pay for... I'm writing this on a 3 year old Dell Inspiron, it wasn't the base model and I paid a bit more to customize it to the standards that I was looking for. It's been banging around unprot...

I'll admit Rockie, that I don't know the whole sordid history of mixing aviation and politics in Toronto. But I do know that both sides play that game, for better or worse. And we could argue forever over the details. What I do know is that I would love to return to the days before open skies when a...
