Go to Asia

That's my advice to all you 'lower timers'...forget North America!! It's time to forget the Canadian Dream (Jazz, AC, WJ) and head East (or West, depending where you live)! Do you really want to spend 90% of your career flying from Vancouver to Montreal to Halifax...with the odd stop-over in the Car...

Re: Most important Ruling in Canadian aviation history:

I guess it's up to the Moderators if they want to move this thread. To be very clear, this is only an Air Canada issue now, but the tribunal is looking at Mandatory Retirement in ALL Federally Regulated industries. Westjet and Jazz fit into this as well! I have no issue with older pilots. As 'istp' ...

Most important Ruling in Canadian aviation history:

The manditory Canadian airline retirement age of 60 'may' be changing.

This could be a massive blow for pilots already working their way up at the airlines, as well as those pilots who aspire to join the airlines!

Platinum Jet Air: CYYC

Does anyone know what happenet to Platinum Jet Air.

They were 'building' the company in CYYC a few years ago with VIP-style Fokker 100's (I think).

Then they disappeared.

Good company! Specialize in oil-patch helicopter operations, so fixed-wing is secondary. Last time I was in Whitecourt they had 6 choppers on the ramp...and one C-208B. Their base in Whitecourt looks great, and all of their equipment looks clean and well kept. The people there that I've chatted to o...

Man, those recreations are amazing! I like how their below glide-slope for the entire approach...they never even got close to it. And all along they're drifting down at aroung 500'/min! This while they're talking about "brake temp", and "landing firmly"! And I noticed too that they bring power to id...

CYYC Corporate Express

Holy Saab 340's.

Just taxied by their hangar the other day and there were three 340's parked outside! The one they've been using for years and two new ones that I haven't seen before.

Anyone know much about these guys?

You think 9/11 was bad for our industry...

You may not believe it, but we just dodged the biggest bullet yet! Our industry was almost decimated after 9/11. Or now that the industry's back on it's feet have you all forgotten just how bad 2002, 2003, and 2004 were for us? Had this British terrorist plot actually happened as planned it would ha...

The simple solution: Make it harder for pilots to attain licences. This 'over-supply' of pilots has been around for decades, and is created because ANYONE can become a Commercial pilot. Or an ATPL-rated pilot for that matter! It's too easy. A friend of mine that went through the aviation college ro...

Word on the street in CYYC is that the one of the co-owners of Alta took the KA to Nelson with a bunch of his buddies. The catch is that this co-owner guy is NOT a professional pilot. He's a guy in his 50's who has about 2,000hrs...AND it looks like he hasn't flown a King Air in years! Seems like he...

Too much chatter on the radio rant!

We all know that pilots love to talk...OR, should I say...love to hear the sound of their own voice! We all talk on the radio almost daily, but why do we keep adding pointless, time-wasting phrases on to our radio calls??? Some that come to mind when talking to Center or Radio: "good morning" "good ...

The main difference is that the 'kit' allows you to carry WAY more weight in technically the same aircraft (ie same engines, etc.).

Single engine climb performance goes out the window! So you have to cross your fingers every time you head down the runway with a full load!
