Re: Electronic calculator

Here's a list of all the electronic devices you are allowed to bring into the exam. Anything outside of this list isn't allowed with you. Most of the invigilators I've had have also asked me to remove the batteries and reinsert them in front of them (to prove that you've wiped the memory functions)....

Re: FTDT Training / Video // tiredpilots.ca

It's most likely because the only people who seem to really understand it are company FRMS/Duty Managers. Even though the CARs say it's also the pilot's responsibility to monitor their flight/duty time, it's so complicated now that not many do. Everyone seems to be just trusting what dispatch tells...

Re: IR 6/6/6 currency in non IFR rated plane?

So, in OPs case, the only time you can do it in simulated conditions and log it towards 6/6/6 is if OP is wearing a view limiting device and there is a flight instructor onboard who is acting as PIC and is looking outside to satisfy VFR requirements. for simulated you dont need an instructor, you j...

and simulated means you are wearing a view limiting device (ie. a hood, foggles, etc.) and are navigating with sole reference to the instruments Do you have a reference for this? To my knowledge, 'simulated' is not defined in the CARs. There are a few passages in the AIM that may hint at wearing a ...

Re: IR 6/6/6 currency in non IFR rated plane?

Yes, you can do that. It might be worth having a second pilot onboard with you though just as a second set of eyes outside. Because since you are VFR, the controller isn't required to provide you with traffic or obstacle separation. So if you're just looking inside at your instruments during most of...

That is incorrect, and the exact opposite. Radial outbound, the radial goes at the top of the CDI. Radial inbound, the desired radial goes at the bottom of the CDI (tail on the radial, as you put it).

easy way to remember is you always go towards the deviation. If the deviation is shown left, you turn left to get on the selected radial. Same with glide slope on an ILS. Ugh noo  , it's a good thing nobody actually does VOR approaches anymore. So let me break down why I keep saying this is w...

TO = You need to fly TOWARDS the radial (so the needle deflection tells you which way to turn to get there). FROM = You're flying AWAY from the radial (so again, the needle tells you which way to turn to get back on course). Not quite. TO = TOWARDS the station , and FROM = AWAY from the station . Y...

Re: help with 703 training exams

Really? You can put literally anything on the exams that demonstrates the exam taker has met the training requirements. Its all pretty clearly laid out in 723.98. What the regs say vs what your inspector wants before he'll give you a piece of paper. I can make up my own longer exams, but would pref...

Alright folks, OP messed up and is big enough of a person to admit it and own up to it. That's more maturity than a lot of the posters throughout this forum in my opinion. And I doubt they'll be doing it again. Instead of kicking them down in the mud, why don't we actually try helping them out with ...

Re: VOR CDI Interpretation

Have you used a VOR in a plane/sim before? Or do you have access to one? Or even a decent VOR/CDI emulator? The reason I ask, is it makes a lot more sense when you can see it and play around with it. The key is to not think of it as headings, but as your position relative to the radial. I won't go i...

Straight from the CARs 101.01: "flight duty period means the period that begins when the earliest of the following events occurs and ends at engines off or rotors stopped at the end of a flight: (a) the flight crew member carries out any duties assigned by the private operator or the air operator or...

If you are in totality, it's just like night. Sun is gone, stars are out.
Not while you are flying at higher altitudes.
Ah ok, interesting and interesting.

It should be its own category. Quite tricky to stay 'eclipse current' though to fly with pax.

Ah ok that makes a lot more sense. However I believe they actually changed their route selector. You can't copy paste but a space now automatic "submits" the airport identifier and allows you to enter the next one. And for the order if you select "Sort By" -> "Location" it should show them in the o...
