Re: Deregulation in Canada

Dear GA MX Trainer; I was merely pointing out that dererulation took place under the Tories and Brian Mulroney, not Pierre Trudeau and the liberals. I will now acknowledge that it was only 95% of deregulation that took place between 1984 and 1993 when the tories were in charge. I am not arguing for ...

Re: Deregulation in Canada

Just a small correction here from someone who was actually alive at the time. Although the liberals under Pierre Trudeau had been exploring the possible benefits of De-regulation of the the airlines in Canada, it was not until Brian Mulroney and the P.C. party with John Crosbie ( as Transport Minist...

Re: First Nation-owned Wasaya Airways ‘going down’

It is interesting that someone asked if there were any native owned airlines that were making money, then when someone named five or six and the discussion changed to proving that they were actually making money. It seems that on this forum "native" owned or run airlines are continually having to pr...

Re: RCAF TFW Pilots

I am by no means an expert on the needs of the military. However the question needs to be asked, why are all our qualified , experienced pilots leaving our military ? If a program based on retention was implemented it seems to me we wouldn't have this recruitment problem in the first place. Accordin...

Re: "Common Sense, are You Born With it it or Screwed Foreve

After reading this entire thread the only thing that keeps smacking me in the face is "I gently passed her off to another instructor, at another school". Why wouldn't you just tell her she shouldnt be flying. I have had to look a hopeless student in the eye and tell them I dont think they can cut it...

Re: Interesting winds at CYTZ today

Good God!!!! With all the dangers of landing at the island in these kinds of winds ( as explained by pdw ). I am amazed that I survived flying a Q400 in and out of there for four years and doing that treacherous takeoff, approach and landing thousands of times ( in winds worse than those ) ! Thank go...

Dear Crazy_Aviator; You are right........$160,000.00 spent by an indian chief, courtesy of taxpayers money IS a drop in the bucket compared to the BILLIONS wasted away on OIL reserves!! ( read subsidies of an antiquated and evironmentally devastating energy source being mined in the Alberta tarsands...

Re: Wasaya Airways’ VP accused of racking up thousands $$$..

Dear Trey Kule; I think what I ( or me ) and the other "apologists " are trying to say is that far worse scandals take place on a daily basis in life. Think of the banking collapse in the USA in 2008 where almost a trillion dollars of taxpayers money was used to "bail out " the banks to replace mone...

Re: WestJet Captain receives passenger's sexist note

I like the approach Doc prefers to take......just ignore the problem, then it will go away. I think we should ignore all the problems such as sexism, racism, ageism, etc. If we do this then all the dirty problems of the world will go away. Good stuff Doc!!! Why didn't they think of this during the c...

Re: Problem with JPI EDM930 fuel indications

Not trying to be an "A" hole here, but this senario just backs up the old adage " never trust your fuel gauges. When I flew in the bush I always checked, either by looking in to see the fuel or by dipping. Now that I have been in the "jet age" for awhile I can no longer do this......or I would. Just...

Re: Embraer reveals vision for single-pilot airliners

It is interesting to note that we already send people into space and back without the pilot ever touching the controls ( and that includes docking in space ). I would suggest that if we can do these highly complex manuevers with a computer then we can fly a passenger aircraft also pilotless. It is a...

The reason that I get off my ass every election day and go out to vote, is to honour these men ( the ones that I knew personally and those that I did not). They made the ultimate sacrifice even if they survived the war. So I vote in honour of that sacrifice made on my behalf.....even if I don't thin...

Re: X/Wind corrections.

By the way Cat; The best I could ever manage was when I was flying at my old airline and I made a PA saying that we were doing 750 miles an hour because I didn't think any of the pax were listening. That generated a 1 page discussion about whether a Q400 could go 750 mph and only one person caught o...

Well .... what can you say about that video....scary sh#t. As for saving the cost of de-icing, in my time up north, I have worked for some cheap ass bush operators who would never pay for de-icing. So.....with a broom, ice scraper, credit/bank card, a cold pisscan of Type 1, even with my bare finger...
