Re: Flight "Service"??

Tesox2 and BigFSSguy, thanks for the replys. I don't want anyone posting something for me that will get them in trouble - kinda makes sense why finding the answers is so difficult....but frustrating for a mere pilot when "someone" here said we should know what the procedures are. If its not in the A...

Re: Flight "Service"??

So I guess from the responses that we aren't going to get a link or have access to what procedures ATS types have to follow eh? Odd that the CARS are available to anyone, but the rules for a public company are not??? BTW excellent customer service skills displayed here so far... Anyway the CARS are ...

Re: Flight "Service"??

These are called procedures and we are not given much leeway to work around them. This debate started and centered around a pilot being refused WX at the station served by the FSS. Granted we never did establish whether said aircraft was actually landing at that airport. I took/still take issue wit...

Re: Flight "Service"??

Ah yes the Mob mentality. Nice. The personal attacks while nice really are off the mark. Re-read what I posted - I never asked anyone to break any rules - only to stop mindlessly hiding behind them. I find it rather odd that the best answer (although aggressive) to the original question and mine, ca...

Re: Flight "Service"??

Now I'm sensing a slide towards pretend ATC...making sure a snow plow is off the runway at an uncontrolled airport. You know the pilot is responsible to make sure the runway is clear at uncontrolled airports right? How is the pilot going to know if a vehicle is on the runway, when doing an approach...

Re: Flight "Service"??

To be clear - a Lear 120 out and asking for the WX on the MF - not critical....yet. If denied on the MF another freq should be given and preferably a reason. However, that Lear 120 out may be bingo fuel and needing to make an alternate decision..as in now. The weather becomes pretty fucking importa...

....."anal retentive"....... I am absolutely certain you must have been referring to yourself Brown Bear.......................... There is also something called a "priority of duties" Weather falls last. Unless of course the weather is deemed hazardous. eg. TS, FZRA, LLWS, IFR ceilings etc. Okay I...

Re: Flight "Service"??

Back in the day..back in the day...

I once had a FSS type refuse to give me the WX enroute because VFR was not "recomended".

I told em I would go without the WX if need be (bluff) and he finally gave it to me. Wasn't that bad - isolated TS+ night VFR

Re: Sqwak Ident

A lot of the radar identification procedures we are required to follow are actually quite stupid. In the last six years, I have * not once * asked an aircraft to squawk, and then had a target flash other than that one which I was expecting to flash. It's as if the regs were written assuming that ev...

Re: CF-18s intercepted plane on eve of Obama visit

MAD = Mutually Assured Destruction...or the little games they play to stay sharp. Intercepts are NOT uncommon. Cold Lake is an active scramble intercept fighter base - that's sorta why it's located where it is...well that and Primrose. Did you happen to see the Russian Ambasdor to Canada on the news...

Re: Sqwak Ident

ATC has to identify you within 1 nm of the end of the runway. If you are flying from airports with spotty radar coverage they may need you to push the little button - even when climbing thru 500' agl. I don't think they ask for this for shits and giggles....well not most of the time.

Swordfish I hear ya and get it - the Giant Mine was a bad deal all around. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2003/09/29/giantmine_open030929.html However, I wouldn't necessarily lay all the blame on the "Union" proper - its not like the Union organized the bombing (I hope). The Union - meaning the memb...

All well and good but how many of you ole timers can re-program the FMS WHILE texting you GF about dinner plans and reading ACARS???? Huh..what's a text message? Kidding of course. Nice posts but METARS and TAF's? FL320? The story lost all credibility when you mixed new with old. SA's and FL3...

Re: West Wind Pilots Reinstated

Just a couple points of information. I find it rather frustrating when people think strikes/ lockouts Just happen. It's a loooong road to get to the point of an actual strike/lockout scenario. Under the CLC notice to bargain can be served upto 4 months in advance of the expiry of the CA - longer if ...

In other words : Aviate, Navigate, Communicate ;) Hmm that is a pretty catchy phrase. Maybe we should incorporate that into our routine somehow....... OR maybe it's better for the whole crew to focus on a burnt out gear indicator light bulb......hmmmm. T'aint nuthin new under the sun folks.

Marauder, Samaritan, et al : To deny services to the hand that feeds you, and force a hostile, uncivilized, confrontational resolution to the issues you are trying to resolve. eerrr....hello...?? Re: West Wind Pilots Reinstated

Company's get the Union they deserve (or not). Current WWA mgmt should look to WJA for how to avoid a Union drive. (Hint - it isn't with strong arm tactics) These boys will be able to work there again - it's actually pretty common. The CIRB really frowns upon retribution as a result of it's ruling -...

Re: Why is speculating about accidents bad?

Skyhunter the difference between the general public or media speculating and pilots speculating is that pilots here should have a clue. Pilots here should be able to take even the tiniest morsol of info and apply it logicaly to what they do. If they can't, well I just can't agree that pilots are tha...

Re: Continental Flt 3407 Crash at Buffalo/Niagra Intr'nal

Once again may I suggest. The problem with skills levels and decision making abilities is person specific, not time specific. That is very true and worthy of repeat. There is however, no better teacher than first hand experience which as you know, most often comes with time in the seat. The problem...
