Re: Emirates after AC
I'll take home $200K+ this year... work less than an Emirates pilot... and I don't have to live in Dubai... I live exactly where I want to live, raise my kids in the outdoors and have the time to ensure they are learning the right things. When I go on the big Boeing I suppose that take home will go...

Re: How competitive is 750+ Total Time?
Just adding my two cents to this, I've seen folks go from "real flying" (705) to instructing and lets just say they struggled to a degree that was shocking to me and others involved. I've also seen fighter pilots struggle with getting back into GA flying. The reality is that all flying is challengin...

Wouldn't a merger and/or expanded agreement with Air Transat seem much more likely? Why do they need to own the aircraft themselves? Porter is definitely going places, as they seem to be the only company owned by people who care for its success.

Re: RCAF looking overseas to fill pilot shortage
Thanks gents for these very valuable insights. I always idealized the RCAF pilot life, but the reality seems as tough as one would expect given the demands of the job. The high stress and long hours are definitely suited to energetic young folk, as the desire and capacity to do those benders rapidly...

Re: RCAF looking overseas to fill pilot shortage
What's interesting is how many ex-RCAF pilots I have run into on the civilian side. Seems like the job just doesn't have the ability to retain pilots. Lots of young, eager and broke teenagers looking to join up but soon as they grow up and do their time, off they go to the airlines or leave flying a...

Seems like Bede has only dealt with professional and competent examiners. I've sadly heard buddies who had the misfortune of dealing with the many other types. Examiners showing up sick as dogs, not wanting to be there, being in a shitty mood, not liking the candidate, being tired/hungry/angry, etc....

The self proclaimed expert said. LMAO, the regression of grown ass men to juvenile children never ceases to amaze me. It's like getting a window into the mind of the average NPC. I've written long, analytical posts on the absurdity of "AI taking our jobs" posts before, so I won't waste my time again. Suffice to say that people without knowledge of LLMs and transformers basically see GPT chatbots as magic. They are not, and you would not trust them to do anything meaningful i...

Re: Failing CPL Flight Test
Personally what I see is the exact opposite. Examiners won't fail students because they will get a reputation as being "hard" so instructors will steer their students away from them to examiners who are easy because their candidates almost never fail. . The flight test isn't rocket science. The fli...

Re: Failing CPL Flight Test
My experience with test failures as a pilot examiner is that they fall into 5 categories 1) Test-itis. Candidates have all the necessary skills and knowledge but fail themselves due to nerves. An effective pre flight test review and full mock flight test is vital for these candidates. 2) The brain ...

True, we should be de-banking and denying basic rights to people we disagree with. After all, we wouldn't want to tolerate HATE!!!! And of course, the mainstream media narrative is 100% factual on geopolitical events. There definitely aren't massive un-regulated lobbies funding politicians and media...

Cost of living crisis, economy in per-capita recession, and airlines going bust left and right. Over the long term aviation will be in decent shape worldwide (assuming the carbon doomsday cult doesn't get their way), but the frenzy of the post-covid years will probably not happen again. Flight train...

Just adding my two cents without having read all 21 pages, but the era of pilots and other skilled workers drinking the kool-aid and working at a discount out of "passion" needs to end. You are worth what you negotiate, and being paid well is not something to be ashamed of. Do doctors, lawyers, exec...

Re: Cost of Training to Become a Commercial Pilot in Canada?
Only problem with buying a plane is the up-front risks associated with going all in on flying. Spend enough time near an FTU and you'll see lots of prospective students come and go with their dreams crushed. Flying isn't for everyone, regardless of what you hear on these forums and from pilots in ge...

Re: Want American Salaries? Move to America
Overt corporate shilling like this in an era where cost of living has become the #1 issue is going to lead to severe backlash. The previous generations were nice, polite, happy Canadians because Canada had the highest standard of living post WW2 to the 90s. That has rapidly changed, and is going to ...

No one else mentioned it so I will. Keep in mind NavCanada IFR conrollers have about a 10% success rate if you are just off the street. Tower has more success. If you go from tower to IFR down the road you will also be more likely to succeed and if you don't you can always go back to tower. It's al...

To answer the title of the thread: Because Canada and West as a whole is transitioning to a low-trust society. Google it if you don't understand the term. In a low trust society, many altruistic/cooperative actions that were deemed culturally appropriate in a high-trust society are abandoned. As suc...

Re: ATF vs. MF for UNICOM?
Pretty sure MF is distinct from the ground station in use. For example, even MFs with an FSS on site will still remain MFs when the FSS closes for the day and pilots are expected to follow the exact same procedures, except calls will be addressed to "traffic". As for UNICOMS, although the procedure ...

Re: Failed Instructor Class 4 FT
The circling method (high/low key) for forced approach is tougher than just a standard circuit IMO. The nice thing about doing a circuit is that it's muscle memory you've practiced a million times. As a bonus, the precision 180 basically becomes the base/final of your forced approach, so you're cons...

Yes on the CPL exams and above. Aside from True Alt, the E6B is your best friend in the aircraft as I don't see how you'd use a CX3. Buttons aren't exactly easy to press as you're getting knocked around by summer turbulence.

Re: Failed Instructor Class 4 FT
I also haven't heard of any Class 4 fails, and don't have experience failing flight tests myself. I will say there are only two factors in determining your success on a flight test: 1) Your level of practice/prep and 2) The examiner. Of the two, you can only control the first, but I daresay the seco...
