Re: It's Time
Realitychex is alluding to the same idea, that 1 NM is approximately 1.15 SM. I don't think anyone is debating that. The issue is with the use of the word, LONGER. Gentlemen, guns down please, back on topic, union or no union at Porter. Well said. It’s been a common practice for folks who can’t com...

Re: It's Time
Life is good with industry low utilization, long ASL's, fat block times and leisurely RON's, all resulting in great OTP. Easy peasy. Everyone's happy. Except the accountants. This won't last. Operating a fleet of 42 (currently), near new, high capital cost jets under 7hrs per tail per day, (and I'v...

Re: Porter YYC Base
Not on the radar. YVR is next, along with possible mention of a YEG. No YYC has ever been stated or confirmed on any pilot call. YVR is already open. Question is if they will hire directly into YVR, since DukeNukem is always dissing Jazz's/AC's ad posts with "I would never go to a company you don't...

AC or Porter?
Currently based in YYZ with Porter on the E2, very happy at the moment, and looking to move to BC for long term. If I were to bid for YVR base, I'd be sitting in the top 20-30% of that base for first officers. I am early 30's, looking to start a family in the next 3 years and undecided if I should e...

People log sim time ? Does it have any advantages post flight school?
Sorry I know this isn’t useful to you, just curious.

Re: What's up with AC?
Porter is putting more importance on being a reliable airline (increasing spares at the cost of slowed expansion for a few months). It’s not for a lack of demand. Loads are very full most flights.

Re: Qualifications for new Hire
Out of curiosity, when operators are advertising for "Total multi-engine time" or "Multi-engine PIC" minimums, do they mean they need turbine/multi-crew time, or are piston times also considered? Or is it like "We'd give more of a priority to turbine time than we would to piston, but we will consid...

Re: Metro 3 ( dangerous as they say it is )
With the left engine running at 98% N1 there is so much drag on the propeller that the only way out is to feather. It is not about VMC, it is about the massive drag. I have experienced this event several times in a full motion Jetstream simulator. It is a violent departure for controlled flight if ...

Re: Example Schedule (again)
I'm a junior captain. So far I'm working every day except my GDOs. The qol is garbage right now and it's making me question if upgrading at Porter was the right choice. I swear I'm generally a pretty positive guy, but seeing how good it was at Porter just one year ago compared to now makes me upset...

Re: Example Schedule (again)
Regarding the original post about schedules at Porter…. If you only care about trying to book a bunch of days off in a row followed by a bunch of work days as much as you can (like a commuter would), how feasible is that (provided you don’t care what exact days you have off and on) at a junior level...

Yes there are a few. Air sprint will allow you to be based in YOW, Chartright has a plane or two based out of there, I’m sure there are other management companies with planes based out of YOW (look up the main management companies).

Skyservice requirements higher than most
Good afternoon all, Over the past 2 years I have been looking at corporate pilot job ads, and I can't help but notice that every single Skyservice ads usually require 2-3x the experience level of most other operators. It's not rare to see them require 5000-6000 hours for challenger captain jobs, whe...

Corporate operators with more competitive vacation
Hi everyone, I was wondering if 2 weeks off per year for many years (usually 5) is standard amongst most corporate operators ? I am contemplating corporate but find it difficult to ignore how many airlines provide about 4 weeks vacation to year 1 hires (includes public holiday). My understanding of ...
