Re: biz jet challenger 650 crashed on takeoff bangor maine
It's interesting and noteworthy that the FAA HOT guidelines say that 3/4sm visibility in snow at -17C is only moderate snow - they have more relaxed standards than we do. Interesting. The FAA version for the most part seems like a direct copy of the Transport Canada version, except for that table a...

Re: biz jet challenger 650 crashed on takeoff bangor maine
Listening to the LiveATC tapes, for de-ice they requested full aircraft type 1, and wings and tail type 4. From the time they left the de-ice bay until they started the takeoff roll was about 10 minutes. METAR KBGR 260053Z 04009KT 3/4SM R15/6000VP6000FT -SN VV011 M17/M19 A3035 SPECI KBGR 260026Z 040...

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
It had nothing to do with your man's wind theories. I think pdw is just trying to explain the dreaded 1 knot decreasing perfomace shear they "might" have encountered. I'm sure we have all experienced this many times and never even noticed it. Now with this information presented by pdw we're conside...

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
In researching it became clearer that this aircraft’s flightpath transitioned from V-1/V-2 in a runway headwind to more-like tailwind by 200agl into/closer-up-to drier/hotter inversion (narrow transition / coolest at the surface). Looking at the smoke plume, the upper wind appears to continue to fo...

Location of the PA-44 C-GBJJ at time of collision, groundspeed 135 knots, 3200 feet. The C172 didn't appear to show up on ADS-B.

How many original (pre integration) WestJet FO's have left recently as well ? I'm guessing that's closer to 100.

Last Sunwing flights
From the Sunwing MEC, May 28th 2025 ... Last Sunwing Flight Today marks the sad day of Sunwing Airline’s last commercial flight. After that, the call sign will be used one last time on a lease return flight to Europe. It’s an inglorious end to a glorious airline. It certainly is the end of a great r...

Ah yes the dreaded Arctic low level inversion eddies. I can't remember how many times I almost bought the farm after encountering the sudden 1 knot airspeed loss on departure.

Re: Approach Bans ?
With the Dash's Ops spec, if the runway has CL lights, 50%, otherwise it's 75%. As for RNAV's it's 50%. Runway 07 at YOW does not have high-intensity runway centreline lighting, so you need 1600 RVR to shoot the CAT-I ILS but only 1200 RVR for the RNAV (GNSS) Z LPV. I'm not sure I see the logic in ...

Approach Bans ?
Listening to LiveATC this morning with the fog in YOW. Dash Port Q400s were landing off the RNAV-Z to runway 07 when the reported RVR was 1200. There was also a Porter E295 that said they needed 1600 RVR for the ILS, which I thought was the standard OP SPEC RVR minimum in Canada on a CAT-I ILS. So I...

Re: Cargojet slide off the end of 08L at YVR
Not very likely short of massive damage to the aircraft and systems. 1 bad wheel sensor will mess up 1 wheel - but will not affect the other 7. The braking system has 3 different systems...Normal, alternate, and reserve. with separate components. In reality there is no real single point failure for...

every picture of the accident I've seen has reversers and spoilers stowed. In this video starting at 9:31 there is a good head on view of the aircraft. You can see one outboard spoiler on each wing appears to have remained extended. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rgPiV4WxrI Presumably the hydraul...

Re: Cargojet slide off the end of 08L at YVR
You're not calling for FLAP 20+ on the STAR. And I'll ask again, how does CJT get their performance data for an abnormal landing? QRH? ACARS? It's been a few years but it was common when landing 08L off that STAR for ATC to slam dunk you high to final when traffic was light. A lot of pilots would s...

I don't think i would trust those numbers. I highly doubt a Boeing 767 - with any flaps - could stay airborne and flying below 120 kts I'm skeptical as well but as I mentioned earlier there is a video that pans from the threshold to the aircraft that appears to show the main tire tracks start diggi...

They didn't blow through the final, they requested direct to EMKAM when they were already south of the LOC on a radar vector heading of 050. It looks like they intercepted and then maintained the LOC with no deviation...

How accurate is ADSB data close to the ground? As a comparison here is a Westjet Boeing 737-800 landing on the same runway 1:20 prior 08:10:24, 325 feet, 133 knots, 0.76 nm (to the threshold) 08:10:30, 250 feet, 133 knots, 0.53 nm 08:10:39, 150 feet, 134 knots, 0.15 nm 08:10:49, 25 feet, 139 knots,...

ADSB data shows it departing the runway at over 100 knots. You don't go nearly 2000 feet off the runway at 50 knots. This is the ADSB Data I'm seeing. (FlightRadar24, Google Earth) Time, Altitude, Ground Speed, Distance 09:27:45, 1050 feet, 160 knots, 2.93 nm (from threshold) 09:27:55, 900 feet, 16...

Imagine being a widebody captain in the sandpit, coming back to canada getting a job at an airline that has relatively quick upgrades, then being sold to an other airlines and now your upgrade will take 12 years. Sounds like a DEC Swoop Scab ? Speaking of Swoop Scabs how many of them came from Sunw...
