Re: May 1 startup day Air Georgian

Thanks for that zbbylw. Wouldn't it require more brake energy though to slow the aircraft down from 30kts than say slowing from 20? Or would that require riding the brakes? Guess unlike a turbo prop you can't slightly engage the reversers eh? Lol Off topic. Carbon brakes are a different beast. It's...

What a joke. And flying 4 dollars...that RJ had to be doing at least 50 or more. 50? Ya, I doubt that. Do yo...

Re: May 1 startup day Air Georgian

Flying 4 dollars, On the bus, in order not to ride the brakes (which is especially bad on carbon brakes) we let it accelerate to 30 kts before slowing back down. On some weights (and a YEG-YYZ with a decent load would fit that bill) if the taxi way is smooth it will settle to just below 30 kts so y...

Re: May 1 startup day Air Georgian

I was taxiing in Edmonton once behind an Air Canada A320 and he was taxiing quite fast. I was going 20kts and he pulled away quite quickly, so I can only imagine how fast he was going. Not sure what their sop says about taxi speed, but unless you know, you probably shouldn't judge. Wouldn't be the f...

First of all, where does your wife want to be. No sense in moving your family to a city that they won't be happy in. While the pay is important yes, so will the lifestyle, especially with a young baby.

Johnnyhotrocks, you are spreading false information, year 1 at AC is aprox 46,800 plus benefits etc. Year 2 is 51,300, year 3 is 59,400, year 4 is 66,600 and these numbers are based on 75 credit hours not 100, so yes that would be a better option. Not to worry though at the rate we're going won't b...

Re: Air Georgian

I think sometimes people forget that at least here at Georgian, this company isn't built to be a career job, but a stepping stone, and such the pay reflects that. Personally, I would certainly need to earn more in the near future to support a family, but then again in the near future I also plan to...

I don't need to justify anything to anyone. I'm simply showing other readers that the salary, and I repeat while not great, is still manageable. If you cant make it work, it's up to you to find employment at a place that will offer the salary that you require to live the way you do. I think sometime...

Re: Air Georgian

flying4dollars FYI not everyone wants to live in yyz. Those that came to Georgian up until a month or two ago knew they would be based in yyc or yhz until they are able to hold yyz if that's what their goal was. So coming in, people knew what they were getting into. Is the pay for fo's spectacular?...

Consider yourself a minority. From the first hand stories I hear, it is a gongshow. Well its all dependant on the person, their background and their expectations here. While maybe not perfect, it's been more a positive experience than a negative one. I actually have a life, and financially I do jus...

Re: LED Landing Lights

We have them on the B1900 fleet, including the taxi light. They took some time getting used to but I still don't like them any better. They aren't much brighter than the original lamps at their max light output. It also doesn't put off the natural light that the old ones did and I find night landing...

I don't live in Canada but have relatives who tell me what things cost generally so the wages shown on candianpilotpay.com are eye-popping. All depends on how many people leave in a given period of time. This month we have 7 or so in the new hire course. Not sure how many planned for may if at all.

You don't need 500 on type to go direct entry captain, but it is an asset. Guys have been hired with similar type time, ie. King Air 100/200/350, Metro and even Cheyenne. New hires will be based in either Halifax or Calgary. Toronto is a senior base at this company as the majority of pilots are Onta...
