Re: Manitoba government contemplates privatizing province-run air ambulances, water bombers

If cost was the issue, STARS would be eliminated. Twice the money and half the medivacs of Lifeflight.

Re: Age Discrimination

I'm surprised you would expect a reply with any amount of experience. I have received replies from resumes only a handful of times out of many hundreds sent out from my early twenties to my mid forties. Current type ratings are virtually a prerequisite at some companies. Even with that you need to k...

1) Also promoting "Fate is the Hunter". Can never have too much "Ross and the matches" or "it was raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock" or Taj Mahal. 2) Tony Kern aviation safety texts on "Airmanship" are superb. 3) 747 by Joe Sutter, (RIP) chief engineer on Boeing's.......you guessed it. 4) Th...

Re: Synthetic vision landings approved

Lower landing minima will never be approved for EVS. That's Enhanced Vision System. Lower minima may be approved for EFVS, Enhanced Flight Vision System. The latter will be superimposed on Heads Up Guidance and have cryogenically cooled IR cameras, a much more expensive and complicated approval proc...

Degree or not, what I really need is a First Officer who can angle the deflector shields while I make the calculations for the jump to hyperspace.

Re: Need Info about Thompson Manitoba

17 years ago I described it like this. "Twelve thousand people and no bookstore." Customer service is often lacking. Lots of snow machines, ATV's etc. I've seen superb Aroura Borealis, almost like Churchill. I had a love/hate relationship with Thomson when I lived there, but there are far worse plac...

I thought handwriting analysis was the bee's knees! I was probably rejected on that basis a dozen times. How the mighty have fallen!

Why would we need more filters if there's a pilot shortage looming?

Re: Would a Pilot Association fly at smaller Eastern operato

I've worked for 3 of the companies mentioned, long before they had the same owners. They currently do not have many overlapping route structures that haven't been worked out yet, especially where Speed Air is concerned. This is good for Provincial pilots. The pay disparity will become obvious, but t...

Superb! It's been years since I read one of your adventures. You are to aviation forums as Airplane is to aviation movies. Perhaps the best author on the whole internet! (And the Internet is pretty big these days!) I'll borrow a tag line from Curb Your Enthusiasm... "Deep inside you know you're him!...

Re: Your first T4 over $100k was when you had....

I made 99.5K 14 years after starting training, 12 years working as a pilot and had about 8000 hours. Now a steady 125K at 21 years and 19 years respectively, and 9500 hours, 7 type ratings, 3 regions, 6 moves, and never a step down in pay except once 10 years ago briefly. Turned down a few "better" ...

Found this, hope it helps. https://buyandsell.gc.ca/procurement-data/tender-notice/PW-HL-655-60288 I think the CAP has a CGSB code for P-50, don't have one with me. This document makes some reference to -43C. Some years ago we determined that this was okay for PT-6, but not for JT-15. Don't take my ...

Re: The ideal pilot job

I get to fly a small business jet into some large airports and some short gravel runways. As far as automation is concerned, we have to master both auto-flight and hand flying, it's not one or the other, it's both. If or when unrealistic restrictions on hand flying are issued, I will do as I have do...

Re: Your Thoughts on The Pilot Shortage

Notice the words "FAA or JAA ATPL".... we're not invited to the party. A conversion may solve some of this problem, but we're still poaching type ratings.

Edit: That the effort is made to try and find pilots is encouraging.
