Re: The ideal pilot job
Pounding a Beaver year around on the left coast. The rain, The wind, The turbulence, The swells, The debris, The Boats, The whales, The wonderful passengers (which you actually get to know), a great airplane and home every night, weather permitting, and if that isn't enough, the mildest climate in C...

Re: A Nice Day on The Hecate Straits
Jack Anderson did not like the idea of a GPS. His idea was it took your attention from where it belonged -- outside. I remember well those days crossing Hecate strait in weather like pictured. Line up two islands from Rupert and then hold the heading for twenty minutes making sure the angle to the w...

Re: Hey old guys.
I don't know what the rate was when I learned to fly. I paid $5 for my whole licence. But the next year, 1969, a C-150 was $12 and a 172 was 14. Add $4. for dual. Instructors were not well paid. In 1971 I taught at a school for $4. per hour and had to quit after the first year to prevent starvation....

I did 106 in 10.6 this summer (including 4 hours of transit time..)
Ha! That would be touch and go's. I have to dock and reload each time. Seriously though, thats a fast turn around time on a fire.

Re: GUSTS! Handling tips & tricks for landing on floats
Jack Anderson, crazy old bugger he was, taught me how to fly floats in Prince Rupert. He did all my checkouts. Used to see him come down the dock with an axe, wearing a mackinaw, and fly off somewhere in a 180. He was the one who first flew over the trees directly into Seal Cove, came off the step ...

None, except my cellphone. That's what I like about my present job. I can see me destination from home and home from my destination. It's called a retirement job.

Re: If you had the money...
I would still fly my c172. Maybe would paint it in some red/blue funky scheme and add the diesel engine with fadec. I would rather buy a piece of land with the 4000 ft runway so I can rent all the hardware to fly from all the other lottery winners. BTW how much land do I need for my 4000 ft runway?...

Re: Medical expiry, time?
The regulations are very clear on this matter. You medical expires at midnight at the end of the last day of the month in which you had your medical. Never any other day of the month. Always the last day. Always midnight. You know, just past 2359

Funny how after my last reference to the end of the video, weather it was stopped or running before touchdown is still being discussed here.
Take a look at the last ten seconds of the video. Notice the pretzel shaped prop tips.

Before posting my previous comments I was intent on the moment of impact and time of prop rotation. I never did view the last few seconds. The blades most obviously contacted the ground under power. Take a look at the very last few frames.
Time for old Bob to get new glasses.

Re: Nanchang CJ-6A gear-up landing at Oliver Airport BC [vid
Watch in large screen on u-tube and use your pause. The engine was completely stopped before the prop touched the ground. Then one blade touched off vertical and then the blades rotated around as the weight settled onto it. This engine has not likely been damaged. Notice that the nose gear is out of...

Re: windshield cleaning stuff
Pledge works for a time but is a wax and not a polish. After a few washings the pledge has to be washed off with soap and water. A polish leaves no wax build up behind and only creates a shiny polish by converting larger scratches into many smaller scratches that are invisible to the eye, but reflec...
