Re: Southwest uncontained engine failure, window broken, passenger partially sucked out of window... wow

Curious as to why they didn't call in with a 'Mayday' right off the bat? Engine fire/uncontained failure with structural damage and a decompression would be triggering that call in my head. Or am I out to lunch?

(Not criticising here - but if that doesn't trigger a mayday, then what does?)

I'm interested in what people think for what is the best start for Pilots (maybe there isn't one) but I have my own thoughts, I would like to hear yours.

Not trying to bore you with searches I did, but god dammit there is some great advice here that gets lost in the shuffle. Best advice is search Just Curious posts on job hunt, road trip, job search, etc. He was a long time contributor here who sadly perished in a Twin Otter in Antarctica 5 years ag...

Re: Sun's True Bearing

Sure, I guess, pelmet. My comment was more aimed at TC and their exams than the interesting, yet esoteric, stuff in the thread - couldn't they come up with material that's a little more applicable to a wider selection of modern pilots?

777?! Somedays I wish that I'd gone down that road...

Re: Sun's True Bearing

So why is this even a thing?
It seems to be a dusty, little used corner of aviation knowledge with a very specific target audience. And, if you do need it, it's more than likely that you'll be taught it as OJT by an experienced vet.

This list would be publicly accessible and include the full name, seniority #, DOB, etc. of all SCABS.

Better make damn good and sure you've got the right guy/gal on that list....if I were to show up, incorrectly, there'd be lawsuits a-flyin'.....

Re: How long till things go back to usual

Actually, in the past, it sometimes seemed more like the 1000 rule:

0-2000 152/172/185/206
2001-3000 Beaver
3001-4,5000 Otter
4500-6,7000 Navajo
8000 - DHC-8
