My dream has always been to be paying $1million/year in taxes. Sadly, I've never attained that dream. :(

Re: Forced landing on a beach caught on videos

Pretty empty or not, personally I'm not going to pick a narrow landing area with any people on it that requires them to get out of the way in order to prevent an injury. What if it is just 3 or 4 people walking on the beach. Beats flipping over and drowning in the water. And he likely would have di...

Re: AC Lining Up with a Taxiway SFO...?

Did you read the Captains interview to get his perspective at all, he thought he initiated the go around at about 400’. For what it’s worth, according to the Captain, he initiated the go around before the FO and the tower, so in all likelihood if not for his actions the two second delay could very ...

Re: AC Lining Up with a Taxiway SFO...?

There is no question, it was a close call screw up but it’s not like they didn’t question it, they asked tower to confirm the runway was clear, who didn’t know they were lined up for a crowded taxiway when confirming it. Maybe a little confirmation bias, tower confirmed for them that their eyes wer...

Re: Quoting ICON about low altitude flying

Any talk about their promotion of low flying not being a problem because they aren't saying "you have to do it" is disingenuous at best. They are encouraging it very strongly. After all they are essentially selling it as a seadoo that flies with easy (i.e limited) training. And who's ever seen a sea...

Re: Lights or no Lights during the day (For small GA AC)

So far no actual evidence showing lights make it safer. Lots of opinions though. Maybe read the quote from Mark Twain in my signature. .......more than a few times I've missed an older or modified vehicle in a shadow when pulling out to pass vs ones with DRLs. I find it hard to believe you didn't se...

Re: Lights or no Lights during the day (For small GA AC)

There is a good reason they are required here in Canada... Can you provide any evidence to support that? Reduced accident rates perhaps that can be tied directly to the introduction of the legislation here? The mere fact that the government has mandated something doesn't mean - at least to me - tha...

Re: Lights or no Lights during the day (For small GA AC)

Personally, I've never noticed any increase of visibility in aircraft with the landing light and/or strobes on during the day. The relative darkness of the airframe against the sky is what works for me. Plus, I'm not often looking head on to another aircraft so the landing light isn't that useful an...

Re: Do you readback VFR clearances?

Seems to me that a lot of people have their own, self made and self justified, style for acknowledging VFR read backs. Is it really safer to pick and chose which part of a clearance to read-back and expect a controller to correct you if it's wrong? On what basis would they do that? There are no guid...

Excellent post, mbav8r. One of the reasons why people who feel that “No one should ever do that” need to relax a bit. Also examples of where looking at accidents with the intent of assigning absolute individual blame is often contrary to actual learning, which can limit the identification of the rea...

C'mon Hans - do you really have to post comments like that? Even the comment itself contains a disclaimer that it's pretty much just some BS someone made up. There is certainly no way to prove it actually happened. If it truly is "all the same to you" as your sig implies, then please use a bit more ...

Re: PVI DATES

Just get back to the TC rep that contacted with the notice and talk with them. Depending on their schedule they'll typically work with you to find a date that works for both of you. Not sure of the exact limit on how much leeway they have but up to a couple of weeks later likely won't be an issue.

Do whatever it takes to get to the airlines as fast as you can. Seniority (and money) is the most important thing and really, life is way to short as it is and varied life experience is way over rated. The sooner you get to sit there with the AP engaged, staring mindlessly out the window, the happie...

But PilotDAR, that's exactly what Icon wants you to be doing - based on their marketing and promotional material. Along with their apparent feeling that low flying is goooood.

I don't agree that just because certain situations exist, i.e pitch black departure over a lake, that they need to be trained for. Good pilot decision making actually means that you avoid the kind of situations which have proven to be killers. Night VFR flight is taken far too lightly by many pilots...
