Re: Offstrip Spots in Southern AB/BC

Not exactly Southern Alberta, but not too far away. Wolf Lake Ram Falls Both these places are scenic, with Ram Falls being along the Forestry Trunk Road with a campsite right there. And great hiking. Not real short strips and tricycle geared aircraft can make it but tailwheel is certainly more suita...

Re: Things learned in the real world

Now a smart pilot won't instantly jump in and go flying in that weather with 210 hours, they'll gradually work their way down as comfort and experience permit. However, wouldn't it be better if that was taught by an experienced instructor first? Ah yes, the old refrain about poor or lacking flight ...

Re: What is the wait time......

WTF is wrong with you people? It was a legitimate question. I figured most pilots would know. Sheesh. WTF is wrong with you? You post using a clickbait style heading and then get annoyed when others have a bit of fun? And you ask a question where you will get individual answers which are all going ...

Re: Thinking about plane purchase

I'd recommend for anyone looking to buy an airplane should go to the type specific forum(s) associated with the particular model. There is a wealth of information available and other members who actually own and operate the model you're interested in. Most of the forums have active members and will ...

I think this thread has gone on a bit of a tangent.
Funny you'd say that and then proceed with a thinly veiled advertisement. I think that's quite a bit more of a tangent than anything previous and in very poor taste to boot.

Why is there no AOA indicator in training airplanes?
Why do you think there should be?

So the ab-initio training that you've never done, you don't have a preference for never having done it in a steam gauge aircraft, nor in a glass panel display?

Re: Need a little help getting a "lift"

Do the poor not also deserve happiness? Interesting question. Essentially I'd say no one "deserves" happiness. We all have life situations that we have to deal with. Happiness is not getting what you want simply because you want it, rather it is about both striving to change your situation if it is...

Hey, I put two "funny face" emojis at the bottom. Is that the keyboard action of a grumpy person?

When I was typing it and my computer screen didn't laugh I thought it was just him. Funniness and internetedness don't always synch.

Maybe I should have just used this -

Re: tablet on the CPL checkride?

Well Photofly, if it makes you feel better to denigrate others because they don't agree with you, have fun. I still believe that the skills and ability to form a mental picture of your relationship in an airplane to the world around it is of value and it's called situational awareness. Try it, you m...

Re: tablet on the CPL checkride?

Like any part of an airplane, electronics whether mounted or portable, can fail. You need to have a plan for when that happens because you still need to get back on the ground safely. It's becoming a bit disturbing the number of student and recreational pilots out there that are becoming very relian...

SBAS is it as far as I know. And it kind of makes sense as the device is made for actual use and not specifically for training. In actual use it will show you the most precise approach available because that's what you'd want to use. Is there some reason that the SBAS selection isn't satisfactory?

Re: Flight test validity

Just be careful if you're running close to the full year prior to the application and the flight test was a partial where 2 flights were required. The 12 months is from the date of the first flight, not the date of the second one where you actually "successfully complete" the requirement.

People who clap after a landing are mouth-breathers.
It seems to me that your opinion denigrating people who are pleased with the flight crew's performance and express same through a universally accepted method of showing it says much more about you than them.

Re: Forced landing on a beach caught on videos

Pretty empty or not, personally I'm not going to pick a narrow landing area with any people on it that requires them to get out of the way in order to prevent an injury. What if it is just 3 or 4 people walking on the beach. Beats flipping over and drowning in the water. And he likely would have di...

Did you read the Captains interview to get his perspective at all, he thought he initiated the go around at about 400’. For what it’s worth, according to the Captain, he initiated the go around before the FO and the tower, so in all likelihood if not for his actions the two second delay could very ...

Re: AC Lining Up with a Taxiway SFO...?

There is no question, it was a close call screw up but it’s not like they didn’t question it, they asked tower to confirm the runway was clear, who didn’t know they were lined up for a crowded taxiway when confirming it. Maybe a little confirmation bias, tower confirmed for them that their eyes wer...

Any talk about their promotion of low flying not being a problem because they aren't saying "you have to do it" is disingenuous at best. They are encouraging it very strongly. After all they are essentially selling it as a seadoo that flies with easy (i.e limited) training. And who's ever seen a sea...

There is a good reason they are required here in Canada... Can you provide any evidence to support that? Reduced accident rates perhaps that can be tied directly to the introduction of the legislation here? The mere fact that the government has mandated something doesn't mean - at least to me - tha...
