Re: Bearskin FO Pay

You're right Ilya, I was rude, and normally am not. Sorry Jean. I'm not defending the bond, I'm giving my opinion on why they have it. All I'm defending is the company I work for, and make a great living at, from the people saying to "stay clear" or "don't go near that shit hole". Everyone bad mouth...

101.9 in Thunder Bay. 99.6 in Toronto. 2$ difference if you fill up a 98l truck. Now how far will that tank get you in YYZ. Longest commute in TBay city is 10-12 minutes. How about working at Pearson?? Pretty much every 704, except for maybe EVAS. I'm unsure on GGN, but they do pay better. Even in y...

Re: Bearskin FO Pay

100% FO turnover from Jan 2015 to Jan 2016. That's over 20 'kids'. You know as well as I do, no one this day and age knows that "give you my word" actually means "give you my word". However I do agree, you don't need to put up 10K. But if you you have any decent time, upgrade will be in a year or l...

$29k/year and you have to give them $10k up front. Stay clear. It's an old boy club that turned a metro position that should probably never be a career position into one. Really?? Like a Dash 8-100 is a career position?? Give me a break. A new FO at Jazz makes 37,000/yr, that's 8k more than JV. Com...

Re: Bearskin FO Pay

Page 2 of this forum has the other bearskin thread where you expressed your opinions as well. So how many people of the 50 here have you talked to? 2,3, 15?? The 15k wasn't a reference to the bond, just a number which I should donate to the young since they apparently live in poverty.

Re: Bearskin FO Pay

From the rumours I've heard, it's a pretty miserable working environment for the first couple years. Union contract is very top heavy and screws the "young". Management mentality is to not even try and retain new hires. Nobody is expecting them to stay, just a "when you leave, this is the financial...

Re: Bearskin FO Pay

Things are moving kids. You don't need to put 10 large up front for jobs anymore. Don't. Illya 100% FO turnover from Jan 2015 to Jan 2016. That's over 20 'kids'. You know as well as I do, no one this day and age knows that "give you my word" actually means "give you my word". However I do agree, yo...

Re: Nasty crash caught on video

First of all the powe levers get locked in beta so you wouldn't even get any forward thrust. Second, the rudder is also locked and pedals won't move. If the locks fail they spring load open so nothing is locked. 99.9% impossible to takeoff with locks on.

Re: Bearskin

Just to add some truth to that view, most of the people who come and leave before the bond are the instructors from south of NWO. Most of the guys who flew the bush tend to stick around. (Moving from BFN to Thunder Bay = Awesome; Moving from SO to Thunder Bay = This sucks)

Why is it so hard for people to comprehend this?? Because it angers them that they need to commit to 2 years. Plain and Simple.

Is now a good time? I'm just curious what your "issues" are? Maybe I should stop putting my wife and kids on the planes if you have concerns I should know about.

Are you trolling here? The horse has been dead and buried long ago, lets stop banging it. Besides, Illya is relaxing, lets not wake him up. Yes, there's a bond. Don't like? Don't apply. Don't bitch. Really if you were honestly wanting to stay at least 2 years, you wouldn't care. So that tells us tha...

Re: Perimeter

So if mainline is what you want, realistically, who is going to stick around and get metro captain time? (Which is basically useless in 2016) Hey all, I'm a new poster, but have been following the forums for a long time. First off, I see your point about getting straight into the 705 Air Canada Exp...

Re: Perimeter

I'm not sure all the problem is Perimeter. Last I saw they were payed well and good raises over a 5 year term. I think it has to do more with the Industry. 5 years ago you would stay to get the Captain time and then hope to get on at Jazz/AC/Westjet main. Now, you can get to Jazz/Encore with all FO ...

He's got a point. It's like when you park your car somewhere but the guy next to you parked liked a JackAs, which forces you to also park that way, and then they leave and your left looking like the JackAs

Re: FSS 'Pre-Taxi IFR Clearance'

Atleast once a day, sometimes twice a day, Porter Jazz and Beadskin request a pre-taxi clearance. When FSS says they don't do that, the pilots get confused and ask "How do we get our clearance?" FSS says "You must have engines running and ready to taxi. However, I don't see any delays for your prop...

Re: Contacting an MF/FSS

I always wait for the hand off from centre, of just before starting an approach to contact FSS. This technique can, and has, resulted in pilots getting violated. In my neck of the woods, after one company successfully defended themselves, Center will advise pilots to contact FSS prior to the approa...
