Re: Bearskin

Just to add some truth to that view, most of the people who come and leave before the bond are the instructors from south of NWO. Most of the guys who flew the bush tend to stick around. (Moving from BFN to Thunder Bay = Awesome; Moving from SO to Thunder Bay = This sucks)

Why is it so hard for people to comprehend this?? Because it angers them that they need to commit to 2 years. Plain and Simple.

Is now a good time? I'm just curious what your "issues" are? Maybe I should stop putting my wife and kids on the planes if you have concerns I should know about.

Are you trolling here? The horse has been dead and buried long ago, lets stop banging it. Besides, Illya is relaxing, lets not wake him up. Yes, there's a bond. Don't like? Don't apply. Don't bitch. Really if you were honestly wanting to stay at least 2 years, you wouldn't care. So that tells us tha...

Re: Perimeter

So if mainline is what you want, realistically, who is going to stick around and get metro captain time? (Which is basically useless in 2016) Hey all, I'm a new poster, but have been following the forums for a long time. First off, I see your point about getting straight into the 705 Air Canada Exp...

Re: Perimeter

I'm not sure all the problem is Perimeter. Last I saw they were payed well and good raises over a 5 year term. I think it has to do more with the Industry. 5 years ago you would stay to get the Captain time and then hope to get on at Jazz/AC/Westjet main. Now, you can get to Jazz/Encore with all FO ...

He's got a point. It's like when you park your car somewhere but the guy next to you parked liked a JackAs, which forces you to also park that way, and then they leave and your left looking like the JackAs

Re: FSS 'Pre-Taxi IFR Clearance'

Atleast once a day, sometimes twice a day, Porter Jazz and Beadskin request a pre-taxi clearance. When FSS says they don't do that, the pilots get confused and ask "How do we get our clearance?" FSS says "You must have engines running and ready to taxi. However, I don't see any delays for your prop...

Re: Contacting an MF/FSS

I always wait for the hand off from centre, of just before starting an approach to contact FSS. This technique can, and has, resulted in pilots getting violated. In my neck of the woods, after one company successfully defended themselves, Center will advise pilots to contact FSS prior to the approa...

Schedule is typical airline, multi-day pairings. Last I heard pay was $29600/yr, but the new contract is apparent even less. Not sure of the exact figure. Bond is your first born child...I mean 10 grand up front paid back at 5% for 2 years. Where did he say salary? Where did I say salary? People wa...

Please, write me a list of other places that pay a 1000hr pilot with zero IFR experience, better than that with the same working conditions? Yes working 90 hours; But that's credits. How many other places can people leave for work on a Friday afternoon, hop in a provided crew car and drive to the co...

Re: Bearskin interview

If you sat on reserve and didn't fly 1 day then that's right. Realistically, Average per diems are 500$ (non taxed) a month which adds 6000$ to the bottom line. Also the days of working 80 hours a month are gone, most are blocked around 90 these days. So you'll probably make closer to 35-39k/year.

I've had centre tell me to stay on my current altimeter even though I was getting over the half way to the other station, because there were other planes on the same altimeter.

I used the Dawn on the collar a few months ago for the first time. It actually worked pretty well. I didn't use a toothbrush though, but if I had it probably would have been even better.

Re: Question for Twin Otters pilots

Ok rather than repeating it's overkill, let's say the charter company insurance requires a twin turbine aircraft. Let's say the lakes are at1200' Asl. It's +25 and they need 1000 gallons of sample putting them at gross. 1500lbs fuel to get back. Only terrain is treesNow can anyone answer???

Re: Bearskin Pilots ratify 5 year deal

Bearskin captain pay is slightly higher than MOST Navajo captain jobs pay, but it takes a long time to make up for the difference. How many days off do you get? do you have travel privileges to go anywhere on your days off? how long are your days? Pension? Benefits? Upgrading 2+ years quicker means...

It can be MEL'd and flown in castor mode. Major pain in the ass.....makes you wonder though, if they couldn't maintain control on the first run, why try again and go off the runway? To answer the first question, if you get a flashing Nose Steering light (on the III), the procedure is to turn off the...
