Re: Bob Diemert

I took these in 2014 while wandering around the Planes of Fame. It'll fly eventually. If you've never been, Chino is a seriously fun place to check out.

Sopwith biplane replica in Abbotsford?

Was in Abbotsford briefly last week and saw some sort of Sopwith looking airplane in the circuit. Does anyone know what I saw? It looked like a 1 1/2 Strutter to me but I couldn't get close enough to it to get a good look.

Re: Hornet flyby over football game too scary for people

I thought "snowflake" was appropriate given the couple in question's obvious "fragility", but if people are tired of that term, how about the good, old, time-honored, "LOSERS"? :-)

Re: French? Spitfire..

The Shackleton prop mod was removed after the airplane was sold and it was converted back to essentially stock PR XIX configuration a couple of years ago. I think the contra-prop thing was because the guys that rebuilt it in Chino (it belonged to the Planes of Fame Air Museum at the time) were going...

Re: French? Spitfire..

What I don't understand is why the rescuers didn't go to the other side of the fuselage, where there is a half door in the side of the fuselage for use in egressing the cockpit when the airplane is inverted If you watch the full video, they do run around the other side. Why they can't get him out t...

Re: The Regs Explaining the Validity of the Instrument Rating

Thanks for the link.

It's clear enough for me but unfortunately I'm overseas and having to explain the issue to a bureaucratic third party (they who would grant my foreign "validation" extension). This should clear it up though - I appreciate the help.

The Regs Explaining the Validity of the Instrument Rating

Can anyone point out to me in the CARS where it explains the validity and the requirements to maintain the validity of an instrument rating now. I need to be able to explain it to the authority here overseas that my licence is indeed valid.

Thanks!

Re: Video - hand prop close call

I don't like to turn props unnecessarily but turning some backwards can cause damage. When I have to turn a prop I double check that everything is switched off and then turn the prop forward like I'm expecting it to fire. That guy was very, very lucky, but who had a camera trained on him like that? ...

Re: Wildfires in Sask, evacs in LaRonge

I was flying there in '89 when the whole flippin' province lit up one night, but La Ronge itself was never in any danger. I spent the rest of that summer in a Beaver looking straight down because that was all you could see. This is just unbelievable. Sure feel bad for everyone that's had to pull out...

Re: Looking for an Accident Report from 1978

Thanks for all the suggestions but the guy I needed to talk to saw this here and contacted me. Within about twenty-four hours I had three separate reports, including a dozen color pictures! (They were non fatal accidents involving a couple of airplanes I own, but long before I was involved with them...

Re: Survival Gear

Lots of really good suggestions. Myself, I like a good, full sized axe (hatchets are dangerous in my opinion) but I don't carry it inside where it can become a missile in the event of a prang. I tie and duct tape mine out on the wing strut. A couple of bottles of Repex triple bagged in ziploc bags (...

Under what authority does the Lancaster fly? Special C of A (Limited) or a Flight Permit, or did the Lanc have a Type Certificate?

Re: Aeroshell 100 vs w100

You can always use straight mineral oil. If you replaced a cylinder tomorrow it's what you would be using anyway. Years ago (think LONG time ago but same galaxy) before there was detergent oil, all oil was mineral oil. Detergent oil (W100) helps keep the engine clean internally but 25 hrs on straig...

Re: Aeroshell 100 vs w100

Straight mineral oil doesn't have a shelf life and there's nothing in it to settle out. You could use it, but maybe it would be better to put it up on the shelf for the day you change another jug? Either way it's fine.

Re: CF-18 Hornets going to Europe for NATO

How many Hornets are in an RCAF fighter squadron nowadays? Surely there's more than six (I would guess 16). At the very least we should have sent one full squadron. Today Ukraine. Tomorrow...our arctic? I don't think comparing today to the mid thirties, or Putin to Hitler, is all that far fetched.
