Re: Headset

I always used DC 13.4 before in work. Bought a noise-canceling kit and installed it myself. Works pretty nice. But at work now we have the Zulu's and I have to give them a big thumbs up! Very comfortable, and lots of cool features.

Re: Star Choice vs. Express Vue

I had one of those horror stories you always hear about with Bell. When I moved into my current house it took ten phone callse to do the address change...or so I thought. Down the road I tried to bundle my services (I had tv, phone, cell, and internet) I stopped getting my bill for about six months....

Re: Canso down near Inuvik about 10 years ago

Arctic Chalet is owned by the father and his wife. They have owned it since before they got Arctic Wings. Didn't realize the son had left Inuvik. Is he flying in the maritimes? Or into something else?

Re: North Star

Well, I got hired in 2004 and they DID have the bond then. Would have preferred not too do it, but it was my last kick at the can, or else I was going into ATC. Almost 2000 hours at the time with an ATPL but very little multi-time, no turbine time, and couldn't get a job on a Cessna 310 (for all tho...

Re: North Star

You can call it what you want, but you will get every cent back and that starts the day you start, not when you get your PPC. I am quite a few years removed now, but you will be flying the Caravan fairly quickly even without the PPC as it's only required once you start flying pax. Pickle Lake would ...

Re: Where to report Flight School violations

Airline pilots are required to submit to a government medical examination every 6 months (Captains) and 12 months as First Officers. Year after year. Fail that, and their career is over. . Say what? It's age that dictates if you do a medical every 6 or 12 months, regardless of your position. It's f...

Re: Cap'n P8 is unemployed no more!

Well, I had the pogey paperwork all filled out, but between my severance and contract work I was lucky enough not to need it. Best of luck to all those still on the hunt.

Cap'n P8 is unemployed no more!

Since a lot of my friends who I've worked with through the years know my handle on here, figured this would be a good way to spread the word. After a few months of unemployment (with some contract work mixed in) I am happy to report Cap'n P8 is back on the payroll full time, all be it with a new com...

Re: Embraer Runway Excursion RNY 07 in Ottawa few moments ag

I don't have any first-hand experience with the runway in question during wet conditions. But one of the guys I'm flying had a near miss with a runway excursion (and he didn't touch down long). He mentioned that the runway is not grooved and that 07 is downslope past the middle. Perhaps in light of ...

Charleston SC

On a trip to Charleston SC, just got back from the USS Yorktown museum at Patriot's Point. Highly recommended. A long ways back while in NYC, I did the tour of the Intrepid. That was pretty cool, but I remember being a bit disappointed that you didn't get to walk around through the guts of the carri...

Congrats.

You should have taken off, put it in a bank away from the cargo door, and did another neggy that probably fixed you right up!

Re: Garmin WAAS GPS (400/500)

Wide Area Augmentation System Basically an enhanced GPS system. Uses ground stations in addition to the satellites to correct for any errors in the signals to allow for more precision. Where they exist, if you have a capable unit, you can shoot an LPV (lateral with precision vertical) approach. An L...

Re: Yellowknife for tourism?

I second Whitehorse...use to live there and it is my favourite place in Canada! But you've already been there...have you ever been to Inuvik? It is actually a pretty big tourist draw in the summer. I don't know how much time/money you have to spend, but if you ever get the chance rent a camper and d...

Re: PC-12 Type Rating

Since we're talking PC12 here. Anyone know where to find info on daily contract rates for captains? I've seen some stuff online but most seem to be American. Not looking to fleece the operator, but also don't want to lowball myself.

How close was that hail mary eh! Could you imagine how nuts that place would've went if it went in! The school is only five miles down the road apparently. And I think I read somewhere that there's less than 5000 students.

NCAA Championship

I used to watch a lot of basketball when I was younger (NCAA and NBA) and followed the tourney pretty closely. Over the years I've seemed to watch less and less. I almost forgot that it was on last night, but decided to tune in to see if the underdog Butler team could keep the magic alive. What a ga...
