Re: FTU-OC

At the time you break the news to someone they're not a "50-hour" student, how keen do you think they'll be to stick around and become one of your 80-hour students? Actually I wouldn't want to teach them so they can go to a school. Remember I would only be doing this because I enjoy training, not b...

Re: FTU-OC

At the end of it, if say you had a cub and the regs permitted it, would you want to be teaching private licenses with it? If so what would you be charging? Getting back on this subject I will go back to this question and flesh it out a bit more to cover all the training needed as the Cub is lacking...

Re: Quoting ICON about low altitude flying

It worries me, am I understanding what is written as it is intended? For a "Standard graduate" ICON pilot, that pilot might consider maneuvering +- 45 in bank, and +- 10 in pitch below 300 feet in a water flying environment?!! I am close to a loss for words to comment about the above. So to make it...

Not to mention better off financially.

Far better working hours.

Far less bureaucratic B.S. to put up with.

And you can plan your home life and leisure time.

Don't do ramp jobs if you are a CPL and are promised a promotion to the flight line if they like you enough. Do the ramp job if that's a job you actually wouldn't mind doing. Whinny and entitled? I don't think so. A CPL is a CPL and thats the end of it. Once you have it you can fly people for money...

What if everybody said no to getting that job what would these companies do?
They would either offer more money or park airplanes.

Are any companies doing that yet?

Re: Twin Otter Beta Use in Flight

This is one of those times that I know more than I'm willing to post on a public forum, so take my word for it, no matter how good you think you are, you can still loose control of a DHC airplane attempting flight behind the gate. Or to put another way if you select behind the gate in flight you ar...

I didn't mind flying Cessna for training but I would not be happy doing that my entire life!!! Flying a jet has always been my dream and I'm not sure I will enjoy/be happy with flying props now that I've had a taste of the big metal.

He/she has no clue what a pilot is.

Buuuut that's impossible cat, you didn't have a degree

Lets see what the educated members of this group have to say about how I could possibly been successful without a degree. :prayer:

Re: A President’s Message and a must read

Well there is one sure way to bring a bit more credibility to this discussion. I left school after grade eight. That meant I could read and write which allowed me to self educate myself in the profession I chose to work in which was aviation. I spent fifty one years working as a pilot, mechanic and ...

Re: A President’s Message and a must read

There is no minimum educational requirements to get a pilots license as long as you can read and write and do basic math you can pass all the tests both written and practical flying skills.

Period.

I think what they meant is that AC strongly prefers hiring those with aviation college or a university degree.

Re: A President’s Message and a must read

They already are. See salary at AC vs WJ. If they pay less to someone with less education does that pilot make less for the rest of their career? Or do they not let the less educated pilots fly some trips because they lack the flying skills to safely fly those trips and they are only given the easy...

When I was flying for a living I wore a Breitling limited edition watch.

The cost to me was free because they were one of my sponsors in the air-display business in Europe.

For sure it was a quality time piece.

Laughing at someones physical size says a lot more about your character than it does about Mikes.

This industry is actually quite small in Canada and a little searching by employers may go a long way to affecting your careers.

It has been a while since I commented here. But I am happy I did not have this attitude towards those who paid me when I was working as a pilot. I looked at it in another way, if I did not feel my employer was treating me fairly I quietly left and found another job. If my employer was fair I made su...

The investigation also found that the pilot had been regularly performing low-altitude manoeuvres during his sightseeing flights. However, such manoeuvres are not necessary for this type of flight. So the TSB has taken seventeen months to come to the conclusion that the Beaver needs a stall warning...

Would you do it in a piston twin?
Well lets think about that for a moment.

We are a hundred miles from any airport at night and an engine quits.

Would I rather be flying a single engine turbine or a piston engine twin?
