Re: Recession.

Trucking full time keeps you away 24-26 days a month. Most pilots here complain about 15. At 15 days a month you're only gonna make ~40k (this assumes you work for a place that will allow you to work less than 22). Trucking has had a substantial detriment to my overall health and happiness. I had o...

Re: Boeing Tumbles on Grand Jury Subpoena Probing 737 MAX Approval

Stating the obvious, 727 and 737 are/were deriviteves of the 707 airframe. Retooling costs money I guess, so use the tools you have to save money. Never quite understood why they scrapped the 757 in favor of the 737. They could have shortened it, and the product would be far more superior. As far as...

Re: Boeing Tumbles on Grand Jury Subpoena Probing 737 MAX Approval

I don't think it's a matter of putting out a faulty product, rather trying to sneak the max through on the NG type rating with no sim cross training required. Flew the NG, never flew the max. Did sim evaluations in the max though. It's the.........same....airplane........from a pilot point of view....

Canadians are not eligible for the green card lottery. Just checked. Just about everyone else is.

So that means your brother was sponsored by somebody, employer, spouse or family member?

Re: Pilot shortage State side

Just looked at the US immigration website. As far as I can surmise, unless you are a North American Indian, you don't qualify for a green card. That leaves sponsorship from a US spouse or family member, or sponsorship from an employer. Then wait 3-5 years as a legal resident before becoming a US cit...

Many operators have come and gone yet Transat marches on......So I would be reluctant to underestimate their survival skills. I think they will be around for a while, and good for them. Worked there decades ago but sadly it was in the bad old days of frequent layoffs, otherwise I would still be ther...

Must say I have to agree with the above post. Money and greed are nothing new; you would need to be off the clock psychotic to knowingly, and I say knowingly, put out a faulty product that is guaranteed to attract worldwide media coverage in case things went wrong. Same goes for a regulator that wo...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

As I settle into my comfy couch to listen to CNN and other media outlets (anything from the National Post to the Guardian, including on-line stuff), as I hear/read stuff, I see a rather disturbing situation in aviation safety evolving. Let's start with what I'd consider a fairly serious safety conc...

Sounds like a nice plan but I really don't mean to burst your bubble...........skydiving is horribly bad pay. Can you afford it?

I know a bit about it; I will be doing it as a retirement gig just to get out of the house. Beats golfing.

Sorry to hear that, sounds like the old "landed immigrant" notion has been scrapped, which used to be sufficient for remaining and working in Canada. I don't know your overall situation and 8 months is a long time but not really that long. Waiting it out in the UK doing whatever is available is not ...

Re: Canada faces severe shortage of pilots and aircraft workers - Ottawa Citizen

It's a same old same situation. Actually, as an old guy who started working in the beginning of the 80's, in a recession mind you, seems like I had an easier time. In a few months, had a composite job instructing and flying light twin charters at a whopping 350 hours of flying time. As much as ever...

Re: North America 737/320 Pay Round-up

Certainly advocate more pay, not less, so consider that before pulling the trigger. Of the two former Canadians I know who are now Americans and never looked back, one inside aviation and one elsewhere, both make substantially more than an equivalent Canadian. So I am guessing that comparing apples ...
