Re: Getting a mortgage as a Pilot

The banks don't think beyond their little world. When I applied for a mortgage they said they could give me X amount of $, I said if you give me a bit more I can afford something close to work to avoid commuting therefore saving about $500 a month which in turn could go towards the mortgage. They s...

Re: Getting a mortgage as a Pilot

If the bank won’t give you the money you 1000% can’t afford it. They were willing to give me 2X what I could afford.

Re: Swoop pay

Exactly, but either way... Foreign airlines, with foreign pilots, flying foreign aircraft, in a sovereign country full of its own airlines, pilots, and aircraft. We don't have a dearth of other options to accommodate the traveling public that justify these waivers. Why even have our own licensing, ...

Re: Swoop pay

It's an unsustainable business model without circumventing Canadian laws. Make it work year round. 17 year contract? Don't know what you're talking about there, had nothing to do with me, but in my opinion it seems a bunch of kids voted with a plan to leave and sold out the next crop. What laws hav...

Re: Swoop pay

Of course it's a problem. It lets a company circumvent our laws to run an unsustainable business model that skims the cherry seasonal flying to the detriment of the companies that only employ pilots with the right to work here, and somehow manage to do it year round. This puts downward pressure on ...

Re: Encore, then Jazz?

I think he means wanting out of instructing. Gets on with WEN but since he lives in YVR would prefer working at Jazz as there's the chance of a YVR base with them. I don't think he's really caring about one over the other, except for that. Exactly... After 18 months of instruction, it's time to mov...

Re: B737 Recommended headset

In the 737NG I’ve used a sennheiser, telex 750/850, the DC Pro X, Bose A20 and the UFlyMike Harmony set up. My favourite by far was the Harmony. The 737 is incredibly loud for a jet. As for the no intercom, rubber bands, credit cards or coffee stir sticks do the trick. I’ve flown with way to many ol...

Re: What is Enerjet up to?

Just curious. So.....with all of this talk of whores and all.... What exactly is a non whore paycheck for a narrowbody? Left seat/ right seat; 300k/200k, 200k/150k, 150k/100k, 100k/ 60k? Neither westjet nor air Canada pay a whole lot on hiring. I am confused, stupid as I am. Looking forward to the ...

I would like to know what is the minimum FO age requirement of sky regional and what are the requirements to applying? age requirement ? whatever the legal age to work is. If you can work at McDonalds you should be able to work at Sky. If I’m not mistaken you need to be 21 to hold an IATRA Nope. I ...

Re: 787 Pilots

That would make sense since flying the plane is the easy part. Dealing with different rules and operations at international airports is the hard part. That side of things wouldn’t be a big deal either. Westjet flies to quite a few different countries on this side of the pond so it’s not like they a...

Re: Watch That Overhead Baggage

Accident waiting to happen, actually already happened! At least 1 dead person needs to show up on the radar for the regs/ common sense to be enforced ! Was the crew running duty limits or 1 less attendant is not enough for the flight? Unusual, it seems , to deadhead a flight under these circumstanc...

Re: Max Engine question

I’m pretty sure no airlines would be interested in that. You would end up with an overpriced NG. The Max was all about fuel savings. You take that away and you have an airplane nobody wants.

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring

Well apparently many well qualified 737 pilots have not been short-listed for interview which is puzzling. The chirpy add promising monthly classes for the foreseeable future has also been taken down, whether the MAX Kamikaze software fault and delay is to blame remains to be seen... Or an economic...

Re: Transat AT Inc Announces Preliminary Discussions Concerning a Potential Sale of the Corporation

I have no inside knowledge whatsoever but if I were to take a guess it would be an outside travel company of some sort. If that were the case it would probably have little impact for the average employee. Something along the lines of the Sunwing, TUI arrangement. Maybe even TUI ;). #tuicanada

Spoken like a true shill. Your posts read like commercials for Seneca. One of the things I really don't like on these forums is the name calling. Rather juvenile. And no, I am not a shill for Seneca or any of the other flying colleges. I happen to fly with a lot of first rate pilots who happen to c...

Another deployment lover here. I was pretty disappointed when I couldn’t hold anything last summer. (My wife was pissed). There were people drafted this year. The last time that happened was 2013. With that said, if you aren’t ok with deploying then don’t come to SWG. Most people find the newbies (w...

I can guarantee you that what you would learn in this 8 month program you cannot "learn on your own through experience". In fact, as far as the simulator training is concerned (over 100 hours) I hope you never get to experience any of it...stab trim runaway's, engine fire/failure, etc. Sorry, but y...
