Re: How quickly do hours build? (full time pilot)

Only flew about 350 last year as an instructor due to the lack of students. Now I'm flying a 1900 working 3 days on 3 days off, home almost every night and putting somewhere around 900 a year in the book. Life is good.

Re: First time poster looking for a little help

I would recommend getting your IFR done relatively soon, or at least do some sim time so you would be able to acquire the rating very quickly. I did my multi rating and most of my IFR training in my 200hrs and thought I would just do the flight test down the road. Before I was finished my instructor...

Re: Actual training cost

I actually finished my CPL, Multi, IFR well under budget. Have a look at the schools syllabus and see if they will let you tweak it to better suit your needs. For example, I needed much less dual time for Flight test review than the syllabus allowed so I saved much of that time and used it for my Mu...

Re: A Day In The Life...

I wake up before most people my age have gone to bed and get ready for the long day ahead. Shower, Shave, and Iron my costume. I arrive at work to find out that the RVR's are down at my destination, there is a 30 kt crosswind and oh yeah, the Flight Director is U/S today too. Finally after having a ...

Re: How do bonds work

In the case of a company closing with that type of Bond you are basically screwed. It's yours to pay. Other companys will cover the cost themselves. If you break a bond with them you owe the company money, not the bank.

Re: After instructor rating..

With the way things are now it isn't too hard to land yourself a turbine job with a bit of instruction time. I landed myself on a 1900 with just over 600 TT.

1st year is $23

4th $37 and stay's at 4 year pay.

Min guarantee is 75, but average lately is 90+.

Not too sure if the new hire $5000 bonus still applies.
And I thought less than $30 000 for a 1900D fo was ridiculous.

$50 000 a year to start. You can make that much shoveling crap into the wind these days so why not flying a plane?

Re: Grounding Foreign Pilots

I didn't have time to read all the posts so somebody else has probably posted something similar. I consider myself a very open minded person but with such a high supply and such a low demand for pilots it just makes no sense to let foreigners flood the market. This doesn't just happen at the airline...

Re: What do you teach for the Forced Approach

I personally learned with the 360 Method on a low wing. Now I teach on Cessna's and find that the high wing makes it difficult to see the key points and touchdown points so I just teach a circuit method. The students have flown plenty of circuits and have practiced many engine failures in the circui...

Help With CR-6!

Hey guys. I am writing my IATRA in a few days and several people have told me that they had a question on finding winds in flight. I cannot find the manual for my flight computer (CR-6, I'm too cheap for an electronic one) and was wondering if anyone knows how to do it off the top of their head. Tha...

Well newsflash boys and girls, every job as a commercial pilot is a "real" job and deserves your best efforts. Being a good instructor is a personal choice, so choose to be the best in...

All very valid points but it is also important to sit in an airplane on the ground and practice the procedures. Better to learn them on the ground than when paying 150+ bucks an hour in the air.

Re: ADD/ADHD

I know in some cases people can fly with ADD/ADHD. I have had one student who was taking the medication at the time and another student who couldn't fly while he was taking his medication (different type maybe?). The one on meds did great, the other not so well.
