Re: Sleep is overrated

Great read rigpiggy.

I've always liked flying in the wee hours, although not every night of course. Something about being up when everyone else is asleep. The peace and quiet - enroute at least - always puts me in a contemplative mood...

Re: Possibly returning to Canada

Congrats. You’ve accomplished something I hope I never have to do. Everyone is different. I know some that relish the adventure of living in other cultures and seeing the world and all its wonders over staying in the country that only by luck someone happened to be born in and being nothing but a d...

Re: Next Step, AC or WJ Mainline?

I plan to be a Jazz lifer. Currently life is pretty good, pay is alright (captain) and the schedule isn't horrible (sitting alright for the time being). The benefits are amazing and the vacation time annually is pretty sweet. For me its all about lifestyle and as an Albertan commuting for the rest ...

Re: Cathay Looking For Canadians

If the choice is between Jazz and Cathay, as it stands right now and assuming your relatively young and single, Cathay wins hands down. That being said, the geopolitical situation in Asia doesn't have the best outlook. One can easily end up having to "retreat" to Canada after 5 years as an SO at Cat...

Re: Advice on where to start?

Not sure if you have or not, but make sure to look into realistic wage scenarios for the next 5-10 year. Do it before you spend any significant amount of money on training towards a commercial license. Definitely don't want to be negative and/or discourage you at all, but there are a lot of CPLs out...

Re: Can you scale the thrust to weight ratio of a turboprop?

Off the top of my head, the gigantic propeller up font would be a problem... It wont work due to centrifugal stresses and shockwave formation. And the engine wouldn't be scalable. Fluid dynamics would require re-engineering of the core and likely the auxiliary components. Also, a fuselage 10x the si...

Who came to Transat's rescue when they laid off guys not too long ago? Devils advocate, genuinely wondering... I'm considering more of a bankruptcy scenario, as opposed to layoffs. A French-Canadian company will always have an advantage over a 'regular' company if they were to start circling the dr...

Transat Struggles Amid Rising Canadian Competition for Sun Destinations - some headwinds in the forecast. Transport Minister Marc Garneau said Monday he is eager to move ahead on new pilot-fatigue rules. Proposed new regulations will be released soon and a consultation period will follow , he said. So... more stalling? Haven't the new regs been proposed already? Isn't that what Gazette 1 was about? Sur...

Re: Free Money Management Advice.

Some good financial advice here, but in my opinion, there are way too many pilots making decent money that drive around in beat-up Corollas... Life is about balance. Too much of anything isn't good, and that includes frugality. So as an example, if you're a 'car guy', maybe get the M3 instead of the...

No it hasn't. It should, but no "airlines" have raised wages yet.
I heard Porter has raised their wages - perhaps it was just a bonus they were offering though.

Industry-wide however, I'd say wages have stagnated and are slowly being eroded by inflation. Then again, theres the whole Swoop thing...

It’s the wrong airplane for BC I can tell you that. Great Arctic or Prairie bird provided you don’t ice up. I’d take a 1900 over it any day if there were big pointy things along the route.
