Re: Emirates

The oil industry won't collapse overnight - I'm not suggesting that. It doesn't have to collapse though. The only thing holding the region together (radical Islam at bay) is a lot of money from oil exports. As soon as peak demand comes along - BP keep moving their estimate closer and closer - prices...

Re: Emirates

Oil isn't what it was 10 years ago and it never will. Just curious but; What are you basing that on? Haha, are you from Alberta by any chance? Did that hit a nerve? The writing is on the wall and the Saudis know it. Wasn't there a coup attempt a couple of weeks ago in Riyadh that they're trying to ...

Not a bad idea. I might even have to dig up one of my old accounts and start shit-posting / trolling again.

Ummm, no don't "stop living"...

Just don't jump head-first into a 5 year / $45 000 bond that might trap you in the Middle East. Oil isn't what it was 10 years ago and it never will.

Don't forget at EK there is currently a 5 year/45000USD bond if you decide to go.

Not sure what it is a the Etihad but I'm sure it's not that high....
And honestly, who can say what the situation is going to be like in the Middle East 5 years from now? Even 2 years...

Re: Reps from operators express concern on new duty regs

Guess that is the point.... are these proposed regs actually better? They may solve the 14 hr problem but that alone comes with a lot of baggage for the pilot especially commuters!! Yes, yes they are. Shorter duty periods Duty periods adjusted for circadian phase The introduction of duty limit peri...

Re: Reps from operators express concern on new duty regs

Working for up to 14 hours straight starting at midnight is criminal. Period. That needs to stop. It should have stopped years ago! Further investigate and consult with industry, by all means. The current regulations - which I would argue are the worst in the world in terms of fatigue - need to chan...

Some interesting comments there. Maybe it really is just a front. There certainly are advantages to blaming it on the pilots / lack thereof.

Re: Landing on hotter day

What runway surface?

Relatively dark pavement on a hot, sunny day will heat up more than the areas surround it. When transitioning over this pavement from say the pre-threshold grass, you might experience slightly more lift, which can give off the impression of "more ground effect".

Re: Best resource on airliner systems

I am one of the current crop of young pilots lucky enough to be catapulted into the 705 world after a couple of years in a 172. Which is great, but at the same time kind of a big jump. I want to show up for ground school as prepared as possible, and I realize my knowledge of aircraft systems is hor...

Heard it was 12 to AC for their first course this month and another 15 for the course that started Monday. Source from my buddy reading their new hire info email.
Fake news! GGN is the fastest way to AC and you all know it.

Every airline these days are sending pilots to A.C. Heck there are actually more from Encore than from the induvidual express carriers. But that's beside the point. Any of that money being passed down to the pilots? I'd love to hear about pay, vacay, and SDO's. Voting 99% in favour of the union mea...

Back in the U.S. in the 80's and 90's, when airline pilots jumped the queue and applied to airlines while their pilots were undergoing a labour dispute, they were called "scabs". There is one such list of 6,000 individuals who took advantage of an ongoing labour dispute to further their own careers...

Re: What don't you like about your plane???

The brakes do take getting used to. After landing you can press as hard as you want and for a few seconds nothing. Then they heat up and bam, everyone is in the seatback in front of them. The heating/cooling system is the same crap as the 300. At altitude with a good passenger load you have to free...

Re: What is the Average Time to Upgrade from Express to Air Canada Mainline?

Define average. Some people never go captain, lots of guys are perfectly happy to sit right seat 777 for 25 years and then go wide body captain. Some people bid captain on the emb in the first 6 months on property. The bus is sitting at about 2 years until you can hold it on paper. EDIT: I did not ...
