Re: China waves wads of cash to lure foreign pilots

I work in China, and I've never spent more time at home with my family. I do 4 weeks on 4 weeks off, get paid more money then I could have ever earned in Canada, and get to spend half of the year 24/7 with my family, not just a few days a week. Working in China is challenging but in my opinion worth...

Re: Sky regional

If the Q400s are leaving what and who will replace the YTZ-YUL flights ? It's likely the Q400s will go to Jazz and they will operate the route, just a guess. That was announced yesterday morning. 5 Q's from SKR will be operated by Jazz by January 2017. The YTZ operation will continue. Thats great. I...

Re: Misfueling close call

It would be interesting to know if it had the big 100ll stickers that go around the fuel caps as a last warning before getting fueled with the wrong stuff. With so many incidents like this repeatedly happening, it's amazing anyone flying a piston pounder isn't more diligent with fueling procedures....

Re: Alberta Firefighting Aircraft Down

This will be interesting to read what happened. I've only flown 3 different types with tillers, and all types can be taxied without it, albeit pretty difficult. Not so difficult to land and maintain center line though, that's pretty simple. I wouldn't be surprised if the medical emergency caused con...

What, you thought 203TT and a college diploma should get each and every pilot a turbine IFR job in wx to minimums half the time with innocent passengers on board? Well not as PIC, however flying IFR to minimums in the right hand seat as a F.O. is about the easiest kind of flying one can do. It neve...

Re: Sky regional

Does anyone here know if commuting with sky regional is possible? I commuted the entire time I was at Sky, was very difficult. Some months were good (12 days at home) some months were horrible (6 days at home). Schedules were inconsistent. The managers (cp, dfo, and vp flight ops) are really great ...

Re: Airline pilots don't know how to fly

Pretty stupid assumption that airline pilots don't know how to fly. In Canada, how the hell did they get to the airlines to begin with? They flew, and flew a lot. Going from a jet passenger aircraft to a single engine piston is a pretty significant change, and with that change will require some prac...

Re: AME cracked cylinder while removing exhaust - liability?

It wasn't a new jug that was damaged, so that being said if I were you I would cover the cost on parts and ask the shop to cover or greatly discount the labor for replacing the parts that were damaged as a result of removing the damaged exhaust.

They are going to really struggle to make this work. It's not a good plan. Haven't you been saying that about Porter for, I don't know, a decade? Has it been a decade yet? One thing I've learned from reading your articulate, well thought out, and seemingly educated posts is that your crystal ball i...

Re: Where are the fastest Dash-8 upgrades happening in Canad

I would say Sky Regional. With the additional E175's coming they're upgrading FO's and moving Q captains to the Embraer. They're also losing pilots to the usual suspects and there will be losing more the Air Canada with the PML. I wouldn't be surprised if it was 12-18 months for the right person.

I think that noise is really only a fraction of NoJets agenda. I'm all for jets at the island and I truly hope that this happens for Porter. I think the biggest hurdle is getting the runway lengthened and educating stubborn clueless people.

Re: 777 captain for $175K

So looking on Canadian pilot pay, a year 7 WJ captain gets $185/hour. 1000 hours/year = $185,000 +20% ESOP = $37,000 T4 total: $222,000 Actual gross cash in hand: $222,000 - $37,000 (company ESOP) - $37,000 (employee ESOP) = $148,000 Max RRSP deduction for 2015: $24,930 Taxable income: $222,000 - $...
