Re: How does the VOR To/From flag work?

Hey photofly! I don't think I follow :( Here's what I understand: Say you pick a radial, 030 and you set your VOR to it. You are on the top right side, heading 030, away from the VOR on the 030 radial. 1) You set 030 on the VOR, so it knows you want a 30 degree phase shift from the omni signal. 2) T...

How does the VOR To/From flag work?

Hello! But what is the algorithm to display the To or From flag? Is the VOR connected to the heading indicator? :? I am familiar with how to use the VOR to intercept radials, and I understand the purpose of the To/From flag. I also understood that the VOR can identify which radial the plane is on by...

Seriously though, why would that plane be priced so low?
Mechanical issue? Registration issue?

We ended up talking about the downturn > the oil and gas industry > the future (electric cars)

He got a job for now apparently so that's good :)

Re: Mooney M20?

I had a nice 1967 M20F. It cruised at 148 knots on 10 gph. Electric gear and hydraulic flaps. Awesome airplane. I just wasn't using it enough to justify the hanger rent so I sold it. It's up for sale again at C & S. You can't miss it. It's black with a red and silver stripe. You mean this one? ...

Sorry you lost your job man, that sucks! :| The world is changing. The sooner Alberta (Canada) gets off the oil train the better it will be for our country. https://vimeo.com/152195669 While I do agree that times are changing, and I believe that electricity and other types of energy will lead the wa...

Re: Mooney M20?

Somewhere between 50 and 100 hours a year. I am also part of the Mooney Caravan. Each summer we do a mass arrival at Oshkosh. We are usually 3 Canadian aircraft amongst many Mooneys. We were a total of 39 aircraft last summer. Yves That's awesome, I saw they have a pretty cool video on YouTube. It'...

Hey Yves,

Thanks for the reply!
That's a shame, that would have been interesting! I'll check out that link, looks interesting. Gonna burn a few hours scavenging through it now.

How much flying do you do in a year?

Hey Glenn, Thank you very much for the info! Mooney M20?

Hi! I've seen a few M20's on the market lately, and I've seen a few going for cheaper than a C172, which I find surprising (~$30k - 40k). It's getting tempting to get one, but I'd like to know: What are your thoughts on the machine, particularly the M20B or M20C? (I ask because they are more likely ...

Re: Harv's. Which location?

I trained in Steinbach, and flew to St Andrews a few times as well. I recommend Steinbach for the fact that there's a good choice of runways there (1 asphalt, 1 grass) for good training. There's a lot of people who fly there (particularly in the summer if there are air cadets training), so it can ge...

Re: Where are all the new GA planes?

@Chris M I guess what I'm getting at is how is it that a new plane that is basically the same as a 1970's one costs so much new! Why is that as consumers, we have no choice when it comes to buying an airplane? @photofly Thanks for posting those links, it looks really interesting and I will read up o...

Where are all the new GA planes?

I have a PPL and I like to think that one day I'll buy a plane, so I spend lots of time looking at Controller.com and the like for a personal GA aircraft that a working guy could afford. (ha ha). Seems like in Canada (and I would argue the US as well), if you're on the market then you are hunting af...

Flying in Bonnyville, AB?

Just moved here, anyone know where I could rent a Cessna 172 nearby? Doesn't seem to be much online.
Also interested in renting from owners/block hours if available. Wouldn't mind training on another plane either.

Thanks!

Re: Blackbox App?

I'd say if you had a sturdy case (like the "Gorilla" ones) on top of that, it could probably handle a bit more shock as well.
Shouldn't be a big deal to tap into the intercom and some electronic instruments.

Re: Chinese firm buys up 49% of Harbour Air

Viking recently laid off if it were not for this deal its a possibility they could have gone under and then the Chinese could just buy the type certificate for cheap and make it anyway. I'd rather have the added value to the economy and to Viking now. Next up: Viking will sell to some Chinese compa...
