Re: Tips on crossing the US border when landing at a nearby airport

Just to be clear, you will need to contact a US agency to obtain your border crossing code when vfr. Canadian FIC's can't give it to you. Center or US FSS. I usually phone them. They will give it to you up to about 45 minutes prior to your estimated crossing time. Hmmmmmm, When i did my over flight...

Re: Tips on crossing the US border when landing at a nearby airport

I was overflying the US from Sherbrooke to Fredricton. No tower at Sherbrooke. On the ground called and filled our flight plan, they gave us our squawk code. Once in the air, It took 20-30mins inside US airspace to actually be able to contact ATC, we were never over 3000 ft,

Re: Thinking about becoming a pilot. Where do I start?

If money is a concern. Consider buying a 150. do your 200 hours or so for CPL. Than sell it. Yes you will lose a little money on resale. However you will save thousands over the course of your training.

Re: Training Bond issues

I'll be to the point: Anyone who doesn't like the economics of a bond contract to ensure a company investing 10's of thousands of dollars into training recoups that investment, is free to start their own operation without bonds. Stop complaining and start a business. Not sure what part of that is s...

You need to be happy. Otherwise you will end up like some on here bitching about how much you make. Maybe find something local to do. Than fly as an instructor.

Re: Westjet to start ultra low cost carrier

Your bang on! your salary is not what your worth, but what you can negotiate. Im not discounting pilots or training. But everyone is completely replaceable. True a withdrawal of service would be a problem....people still need training.

Re: Westjet to start ultra low cost carrier

This is always the biggest crock. Your a liar. Cap41, the issue of pilot pay seems to upset you, can you give us a quick snapshot of why? I'd like to address this issue, but I'd like to know what sort of aviation experience you have to know my audience. Pay is not an issue at all. I hope everyone c...

Re: Westjet to start ultra low cost carrier

There is risk in any job. However we are compensated, and choose that career knowing the possibly outcome. Same as Cops, firefighters etc. I may sound selfish. But, however I prefer to think as it as realistic. I don't want to see anybody hurt in anyway in any industry. I was responding to a post whe...

Re: Westjet to start ultra low cost carrier

We are paid based on having the responsibility of lives sitting behinds us... generally, the more lives in the back the more money you make. Non medical professionals don't have the responsibility we do. This is always the biggest crock. A bus driver, subway driver, train driver all have the same &...

Re: Westjet to start ultra low cost carrier

im not sure they expect the same. My point was some pilots think that they are the tip of the human chain because they can fly airplanes. The fact is its a job 100,000s can do. So, they should be paid like most others in the position. The other problem, is free market. There is always someone that t...

Re: Westjet to start ultra low cost carrier

I am totally against lowering pilot/cabin crew/maintenance/dispatchers wages to lower the ticket price. The biggest cuts have to come from the top. If you don't like the enviroment get the F out. again, no one is forcing you to work in any of these positions. Your tired of people complaining about ...

Re: Westjet to start ultra low cost carrier

Its like most industries you are highly trained highly educated. This is something I never could figure out, the education requirement to be a pilot is no more than being able to read and write. The education that is given by a flight school is really not all that difficult and the whole time from ...

Re: Westjet to start ultra low cost carrier

People bitch about service, they also bitch about their wages and working conditions. Last time I checked no one was forcing you to do the job you do. No one is forcing you to work for XXX company. If you don't like it, move onto the next one. Its a free market ind as passengers and pilots.

Re: United, again.

As was posted earlier, all that people look at when booking a flight is price. A few months from now social media will have moved on to an offensive beer commercial or Beyonce's shoes and if United's flights are cheaper they will fill them. Maybe even over sell them That was true until now, Paid sl...
