Re: QATAR AIR CEO BLASTS OTTAWA ON LANDING SLOTS
Why would support putting 12,000 Canadians out of work and the demise of a Canadian carrier? Oh please! The same old baseless, sky is falling nonsense. Oh please. The same old misread a post and jump to a weird conclusion. So enlighten me then. Was I mistaken to think you meant allowing increased a...

Re: X/Wind corrections.
Not according to Boeing. From the B777 FCTM; Touchdown In Crab The airplane can land using crab only (zero sideslip) up to the landing crosswind guideline speeds. I recognise that technique is necessary on large, low-wing jets.(Even though it's not particularly nice-looking). Instructors and low-ti...

Re: X/Wind corrections.
I see there is an ongoing discussion on how to use the flight controls to correct for X/Winds in the flight training forum and some pilots use the crossed control side slipping method all the way in on the final aproach. If that is so efficient do they use the same method for a cross wind on cross ...

I don't suppose Raitt and Harper will step in here to ensure these workers have thier tools so that they may continue to be positive contributors to this economic recovery? The likelihood is there wil be plenty of opportunity for them. Unfortunately many of those positions will be overseas which may...

Re: How far will you follow SOPs?
SOPs are important for a multitude of reasons, not least of which is to create a base line of expected response/action for a crew that has not worked together before. Quite common in larger airlines. At the end of the day, though, the Captain has the legal authority and, in fact, the responsibility ...

As far as what is a normal x-wind technique for large aircraft, this video of B777 fight test landings is an oldie but goodie!

Re: Interesting article from the 'sandbox'.
Dubai/Doha/Abu Dhabi are by no means prominent tourist destinations. The bulk of their traffic is picked up from India and shipped to the rest of the world. They are projecting themselves as major hubs to transfer pax between the east and the west. The running joke in India is that the national car...

Agree with most of what you said, however: It does not get "cheap fuel", even if it could do so in the Middle East, where do you think it is purchasing its fuel when it flies worldwide? ... When you consider that fuel costs make up 35-40%+ of an airlines operating costs, then buying 50% of your fue...

?..Of course I can't prove anything I've said here but if I'm mistaken, it means the friends I have at the companies in question are mistaken as well. Ok, dude, we get it...you have an engineering degree, you don't speak french, you weren't in the airforce, and you didn't get hired. Suck it up, buttercup, reapply in 6 months, and maybe you'll make it then. Better hope for a widebody position, though, because otherwise between the skipper, you, an...

Re: Future of Expansion?
EK flooding the market to Canada isn't going hurt just AC. Every airline flying into Canada will suffer. WS is going to suffer as well with the new code share agreements! 28 flights is flooding the market? Really? I would think WS would have an opportunity to benefit since there will still be a num...

...By your logic, we might as well outsource everything, doing away with good jobs here at home. I'm no NDP supporter by any means, but when a company has such a tilted playing field, a gov't needs to be very careful about the priveleges granted to such companies. But we already do outsource close ...

Read the thread on PPRuNe and you will see lot of reasons why we shouldn't allow EK to expand in Canada. http://www.pprune.org/canada/408976-emirates-vs-air-canada.html Pay attention to the post on the reaction of European airlines and why they are protecting themselves against EK. The one time in ...

They must be doing something right? You guys need to research a little. Emirates pays zero dollars in corporate tax. They also advertise tax free salaries which are actually comparable to post tax salaries here, based on similar equipment. So they are basically saving the income tax paid by each an...

This is certainly one of the downsides to this career choice: the difficulty of pursuing one's career in the location one most wishes to live. Having a supportive spouse is an absolute necessity. With their 90 A380s, this does not surprise me. Someone please tell me why any airline in their right mind would order this many aircraft? Is it necessary? Is there that much traffic flowing through dubai? I think not! Well I guess it is good for EK that you are not running the airline! The traffic...

CMA vs Pacific Coastal?
I am sending my son to Comox from Vancouver this July and the travel choice is CMA or Pacific Coastal.
My feeling, it is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other, but is there any reson I should pick one over the other? Price and schedules are the same for the trip.
Thanks in advance.
