Re: Pics from The Air

Why did you let that french guy overtake you? Just kidding beautiful pics, wish they are a bit sharper. What camera did you use? We were both flying into Paris so I guess they got priority  I use a regular Sony digital camera (Cybershot H20), nothing fancy. Even if I used an SLR, it's kin...

Re: Encore Routes and YYC Based

Anyone's got any thoughts on YYC-YXJ-YYC and how that will affect the YYC-YEG-YXJ-YYE run currently operated by CMA? I know YVR-YXJ-YVR will be directly competitive with Jazz... but I didn't think Encore was looking to compete with CMA's route structure out of YYC, especially since CMA just had som...

When I was at Jazz, hand-flying on the dash was very common. I remember some guys doing the yyz-yxu flights manually.

Re: Canjet going under (again)?

At the meeting, CJ's performance was indeed praised. Management had very positive things to say about the work you guys have been doing for us. Nobody knows what's going to happen. My job is on the line here, but even if we do get the 737s, it's not going to feel like much of a celebration since I k...

Re: Question about Va speeds

Im no engineer, but another helpful way to look at Va is that, as long as you respect the speed while pulling as hard as you can on the stick, you will stall the airplane before you ever cause structural damage due to the forces. It's better you stall the plane than to break up in the air, at least ...

I remember when I was just starting out in aviation how Bob reached out to mentor me and give me lots of great advice. Hoping for the best for him and all the others affected.

It kind of looks like AirFrance, Aeroflot & Mexicana liveries had an orgy, but I like it. I just think they should've kept the eagle.

Re: Any news on the recall of Air Transats FA's and Pilots?

Nobody really knows what's going to happen. But seeing how Canjet is hiring permanent pilots now, I don't see us taking on the 737s. Most A310s will eventually be phased out and replaced with something else I'd imagine.

Re: Any news on the recall of Air Transats FA's and Pilots?

Pilots probably won't be recalled to spring & summer once the flying picks up again. If people quit or take LOAs, there could be recalls. I think there were around 25 FAs recalled in YYZ for December.

Re: How many hours a year?

I think initially pilots are interested in flying as much as possible. Then later on in their career they want to fly as little as possible. So I guess it all depends on the person asking the question and where they are in their career. Personally, Im logging 500-700/yr. Sometimes it's too much, oth...

Re: Driving from southern ontario to northern manitoba

I took the USofA route when I did it. Options were to go "south" through chicago up to Minneapolis then to Winnipeg, or go north up Michigan, cross over through Wisconsin, Minnessotta and North Dakota then to winnipeg, which is what I did. It's a nice easy drive, lots of speed traps though. Dont do ...

Re: Caravan captain or Metro F/O?

If you were young & single, I'd take the metro job just to build up the multi time. But you've got a kid on the way, and that's way more important to take care of than multi time. Take the higher paying job that keeps you home. With turbine command time (even if it's single engine), you'd still be a...

Yeah those #s look about right as per our contract for the 2012 pay rates. Supposed to be higher but our raises were frozen for now. The per diems are higher though, currently $4.20/hr in Canada and $5.41/hr EU and $5.91/hr in UK. Per diems go up every year by a small percentage as well, so those ar...

Re: A New Leaf

The scale is supposedly a mirror of Transat, does anyone know if that 119$/h is accurate for them to start? Cannot vouch for accuracy: http://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/airlines/canadian/air_transat.html That's outdated. Current captain pay rates are around $120/hr topping around $183/hr. We used ...

If you're choosing between a flying job NOW and one in the future, take the one NOW. That 6 months "max" can easily turn into 12+ months. If you can live with your parents rent free and mooch off them, that may make the decision a little more difficult. But it's a good experience to step out of your...
