Re: ADS-B in Canada
Not sure it answers your specific question but I flew from New Brunswick to Saskatchewan with a stratus 2s- close to the border around Maine and past Montreal I got towers with full weather and the high level traffic. Intermittent towards Ottawa and nothing after that. You have to be pretty close t...

Re: ADS-B in Canada
I don't have ADS-B out yet, but will do next year.
The weather info is the main thing that I am looking for.
Foreflight notes no towers being received, so presuming no weather info.
Airframe, do you get full weather info, radar, winds, etc? Do you receive towers also?

ADS-B in Canada
Hi, I have been using a Stratux ADS-B in receiver on and off for about 6 months in the southern BC area from low to FL altitudes. I can pick up traffic from airlines overhead, but not local traffic, nor any weather or towers. Is this what others have been seeing? I like the idea of the ADS-B based w...

Check out flightaware for that flight. They had descent rates of 3000fpm for over a minute. Went from 9000' to 2700' very quickly over the Cowichan Valley.

Re: Mooney Ifr work
Just thought i would put this out to see if there are some great people to train with that have tons of hours that can impart IFR system wisdom and experience ....[/quote]
I hear you. That kind of training and and mentorship is invaluable and is getting harder to find.

Re: Mooney Ifr work
pkofman1, I am surprised your insurance company won't approve your proposed instructors. I needed an instructor with time on type in a mooney when I did my transition training. I couldn't get one sorted, but they were fine with my local, high time instructor who had time on everything but a mooney. ...

Re: Crossroads
Calgary is pretty dead for engineering right now. Have you tried elsewhere in different aspects of the engineering industry? I am in electrical engineering, and very busy in BC. While your oil and gas skills do not transfer over directly, if you are sharp and motivated you should be able to find som...

Re: General Aviation into YYC
Thanks for the replies. This confirms my suspicions. I fly a turbo mooney and can keep reasonable speed on the approach. The prohibition is the issue as I would be coming in for work, wanting to depart after 5pm, which is after their daily GA ban if I recall. Springbank it is. Only a 15 minute longe...

General Aviation into YYC
Hi, I understand that the CFS has noted restrictions for GA operations in/out of Calgary after a certain time in the day. Is this enforced strictly? How accommodating is YYC to GA traffic the rest of the time? I am wondering if it is easier just to fly into Springbank and drive into town after that....

Re: Headset recommendations
PilotDAR,
I still get bad ringing in my ears for hours after flying with my Bose A20. I was thinking of your exact set up to improve this situation.
Interesting that the helo headset was the best. What model was it and what ANC system was added?

Re: Victoria Flying Club review
Great facility; Good instructors with depth of experience. Cessna 172s in good condition with decent avionics. A twin available too. Recommended.
Victoria is a good place to learn also. Fairly busy airspace with radio work and the practice area is only a couple of minutes away.

Re: Pre Purcase Checkout.
What he said. I just went through this and had m new-to-me Mooney flown out from Quebec. The logs came by puralotor a week later as the shop refused to put them in the plane with the ferry pilot. From what I hear now, this is the appropriate procedure. I just did the same thing the OP has done ( exc...

Re: Mooney qualified instructor
Thanks for all the interest. I have some PMs from some folks who should be able to help me out. It looks like I can get someone approved by the insurance underwriter and get the 'official' training under my belt. There is also some PPL guys around with time in Mooneys that I can work with afterwards...

Re: Mooney qualified instructor
HI, thanks for the replies...yes this is first that I heard of the 'time on type' requirement from them also, when they rejected my proposed instructor. Previous conversations about who was flying the dual with me was for a 'qualified instructor'. Speaking with others, they have only needed an instr...

Mooney qualified instructor
Apologies if this is a double post... I am the new owner of a 1981 Mooney M20k. Due to some insurance misundetstandings, I am looking for a flight instructor or Commerical licensed pilot with recent ( or any ) time on a Mooney. I am in south Vancouver Island and this is proving to be a challenge. Do...
