Re: New Pilot owns plane looking for suggestions.

Airspeed is an excellent tool for keeping trackof your flight performance, however there is a lag in airspeed indication. One of the most common problems I found with pilots was chasing the airspeed especially on the climb out after take off, which if printed on a graph the climb path would look li...

Re: New Pilot owns plane looking for suggestions.

Hey Folks Thanks for the tips. I have been flying quite a bit in the circuit getting my PPL. I have 50 hours since I got the plane in late July. Just did my first oil change under the tutelage of my local AME. It was interesting trying to put a hose on the quick drain. Especially since I never knew ...

Re: Faro headsets - anyone tried them?

I started with a pair of h10 30's bought used off kijiji. 100 bucks. Worked well. One thing I did was remove the thin cheap foam from the earn cups ad replaced it with thick dense memory foam I had Kicking around the house. It made them noticibly quieter. I also replaced the headband foam as well. T...

Re: Pre-Purchase Aircraft Checks/Inspection

Did you say 25 g for a Cessna 150? There are probably better deals out there. Keep looking. Personally when I was looking last may with only 10 hours training completed, there were lots of 2 seaters out there for less cash. My experience is that owners all think their planes are worth more than they...

Wow. Nice plane. I have a 172 G with an 0300. I never thought it would have enough oomph to lift floats. Does yours have electric flaps?

Mine has a vacuum pump instead

Re: Stressed About the TC Exams and Flight Test

I am a 47 year old father of two teenagers. I have been out of real school since the mid 80's and if I can dedicate the time to complete it you should be fine. That is awesome. Congratulations and well done! Thanks. It has been a dream of mine for quite awhile. Took the kids up over the Christmas b...

Re: flight simming during PPL studying/trainingg

I used X Plane during my training. I feel it allowed me to use procedures that I trained in a real plane. Especially on start up. I never really "flew around" a lot but it helped me do the mechanical stuff. I just used a real checklist and followed it start to finish. I also felt it help me as I had...

Re: Stressed About the TC Exams and Flight Test

Having just finished my PPL Last month I feel I can speak from a bit of recent experience. Do not do the written too early. I did mine back in early May. My reasoning was I was fresh from learning everything from recently completed ground school. I was probably correct but not being ready for my fli...

Re: Pre Purcase Checkout.

I would suggest you contact Dale at Coast Dog Aviation based out of Pitt Meadows if you are looking for a pre-purchase inspection or whatever. There's not much he doesn't know about most aircraft. Sorry to not have followed up I ended up passing on the plane in BC. But I do now own a C172G bought h...

loopy wrote:Anyone using a Garmin Glo? What I read is that they only claim compatibility with Foreflight. However, once the GPS info is sent to the device (IPad mini) shouldn't that data be usable by any app?

I bought a Garmin GLO and it seems to work for me using Flightplango and also Cloudahoy.

Re: PPL written exam

I wrote mine last week. Found the cheesy dos looking interface the worst part of the whole process.I made the mistake of second guessing myself on a few and ended with an 85 overall. My worst marks were the general knowledge section. Met and Nav were my best. I think I studied the hardest for these ...

Re: Documents

Is An Airworthiness Certificate still required and if one was missing from the documents how could it be acquired? I am a new student and have been looking at planes to purchase and I see no mention of this in any ads. Is a certificate of registration the same thing?
