Re: defence procurement in Canada impossible?

I doubt you will find someone more up on thir facts in these types of things than WJFlyer. Maybe you should take some of your own advice. No doubt, WJFlyer seems very knowlegable regarding these things, and if you need a sub-hunter, than he's probably right - the P-8 would be a fantasitc airplane. ...

Re: defence procurement in Canada impossible?

3. The Dash 8 does not have the range to operate out to the very edges of the EEZ and stay there for a long period of time. Nor does it have the capability to fly long patrols from Greenwood to the Arctic to conduct patrols out there. In order to provide the level of coverage that we want with a MP...

Re: defence procurement in Canada impossible?

And I forgot to mention that it is because of people like you that procurement runs so freaking slow... they think they have a solution, when in reality, they are suggesting more pork barrel for substandard pieces of equipment, which will slow down a procurement project, and if selected, put lives a...

Re: defence procurement in Canada impossible?

Why is it that in Canada the Government can not purchase new equipment without it becoming a huge issue that end up with late delivery dates of new equipment overprice and outdated before it is even used.? First some of the Aircraft that DND needs cannot be supplied buy Canadian companies. Case in ...

Re: C-FMOM, RCMP spy plane?

My spin on this is that we don't live in the same level of fear and skepticism as our american counterparts do. Some refer to this as freedom... What is "this" which you refer to? "Some refer" to what exactly "as freedom"? If you blindly trust that the fools who run th...

Re: Boeing 767 More Fuel Efficient than Airbus 330, Analysis

Iceman, you do understand that this in not a passenger plane competition? The reasoning behind the design is as follows. The prime mission load for the KC767 will be fuel, carried in the wings and special belly tanks, this is a very dense cargo, allowing for a max gross take-off with no load on the...

Re: No Sea King successors until 2010

Local paper here reported 30 maintenance hours per flight hour, to which I and everyone I know that twists wrenches simply states bullshit. I realize the RCAF breaks maintenance down into specializations unlike the civvie world, but honestly, 30:1?!?! Either the RCAF employs some seriously under-ex...

Re: No Sea King successors until 2010

WJflyer, you appear to be in the 'know'... A poster on another forum commented about the purchase price agreement; allowing civil customers to fall in line ahead of the CF orders. Any substance to this? I won't be surprised, as the H-92 is completely different from the civil S-92 helicopter, for ex...

Re: No Sea King successors until 2010

From what I understand its adding new capabilities that we didnt' ask for back in 2004 becuase they were either not needed at the time and or were not technicaly avaliable at the time Hence, feature creep. What would make more sense right now is a phased purchasing system. The order would be split ...

Re: No Sea King successors until 2010

Digging into what's going on, it appears that the Cyclone order is being affected by the same problem that is facing the US Marine's VH-71 order: Feature creep. We're stuffing more and more into the airframe, and asking for so many changes to the design that it is causing a delay. well we can't put...

Re: No Sea King successors until 2010

This is unusual. From my sources, the first airframe for us, 148801, was delivered to West Palm Beach from Keystone Helicopters last August for final assembly, and was slated to do test flights off HMCS Montreal this spring and summer. Something is up.

Re: What to do with an old computer

In some municipalities, you cannot throw out computers anymore, and you may end up with a fine for trying. Since it is in working order, try giving it to the Salvation Army (they will take it off your hands if it is working), or a computer recycling centre.

Re: Two Canadians die in Afghan accident

In addition to their high center of gravity the driver's visibility is also greatly reduced in these vehicles. It must be very difficult, navigating rough terrain looking though small slit windows. A far cry from off roading in a Jeep with the top off, the doors removed and the ability to verify th...

There is a design trade off between height, and ground clearance, of which the LAV has plenty to do some off-roading with.

Re: Police probe Pearson security breach

Install turnstile's at the end of each security line, after the metal detector. You can set them so that they only turn at a walking pace, which will prevent people from running through security. But make sure the turnstile is high enough to prevent jumpers. If people need to push strollers through,...

Re: Ottawa halts $1.6B upgrade of maritime patrol aircraft

I will say this again: Boeing's P-8 MMA is the best choice for us as a Aurora replacement. It will be in the end less painful, and cheaper for us than to do our own homegrown replacement based off the Global Express or the C-Series.
